Only 2 more games till its binned off for good!

Its been shite watching this suicidal offside trap for 3 years, for every person it catches offside; it also gifts the other team a chance or a goal. It just about worked on their free kick but it also gifted Modric a chance and their goal came from it. Every time a team gets the ball wide its just little ball around the corner and they're in on goal.

I can't believe Pellegrini use to be a centre half! He's living in the past, players are far too athletic and creative to play an offside trap in this day and age. Linesman are also too inconsistent (White Hart Lane this year) to be able to use this effectively.

Its lazy defending and an awful tactic. What happened to everyone marking a man and following them back to our goal line?

It's comical ottamendi went back in every time

You don't see Atletico doing it.

I can understand a high line on half way but on your own box, esp. when you're playing away on the counter?

If your playing onside and one player goes back in its a waste of time playing offside !

My point is; its a waste of time in the first place. I don't know one team other than us that plays it.

The best defence in Europe, Atletico, chase every ball and mark every man and it works just fine. Pellegrini has attempted to fix something that wasn't broken and its ruined our defenders, theres a reason we've spent £100m on centre backs and its isnt because of the players.

Sorry to be pessimistic, but this same tactic cost Bayern a place in the final last night. A tactic used by our yet to be unveiled manager.

I agree with you there pal

Last night Bayern were caught out hunting a winner, possession got turned over and everyone was out of position, Alaba who isn't a natural centre half made a poor decision to step up. He definitely doesn't use the offside tactic, he uses possession football as his defence, can't score if you don't have it. Bayern have conceded 15 goals in 32 league games so i'm definitely not concerned about Peps defensive tactics.

Never been a fan of this. This is the one thing I hate most about Pellers' system. Not least, because you are relying upon a possibly incompetent and/or corrupt linesman to do his job properly.

I am actually surprised this hasn't blown us up more often than it has over the past few years.

There were several players involved in that goal. Boateng made the bad pass - and instead of staying in place he wanted to correct his mistake. But Alonso and Vidal went for it, too - and like this opened a gap to play through. Just one of them should have stayed back. Alaba maybe should have gone with Griezman there instead of trying for offside. The english and the french TV both drew lines in their analyzing of the goal - the English had it as onside, the French as offside...

Let's face it like this - with the passion your players showed yesterday a situation like this cannot happen at City. 3 players trying hard to get a ball in the centre of the pitch... ;)

On occasion, it can be beneficial. TO play in 20 minutes in away at Real Madrid when they have players running from deep is suicidal!

The risk/reward isn't worth it in big games, especially when the only time it has been shown to work successfully for us was away to Hull 2 years ago!

Teams have sussed us, the offside trap, the slow build up, everything! The game is up

2 more games before the stupid 18 yard line defending is binned, negatives far outweighed the positives.
