How about because he is in a no win situation at the moment?

I have given Hughes some awful stick at times this season but I cant see how he can do anything different that wont lead to getting the stick he gets after every away performance.

The fact is he has a number of players there that when not playing at COMs simply do not have the stomach for any sort of a battle, they are great when we are at home and they are given time and space to do their party pieces but away from home when the pressure is on they do not want to know, the main culprit is Robinho without doubt yet what can Hughes do? If he drops the most expensive footballer in Premier League history and we get beat then the fans will be on his back saying "how can you leave Robinho out, sack Hughes hes an idiot" or he plays Robinho and we get beat the fans say "Robinho did nothing again, sack Hughes hes an idiot". Elano is another, people have been saying for weeks how great Elano is and how he should be playing yet he plays and the guy cant make a simple 5 yard pass nevermind completing any of his constant attempts at the Hollywood pass, yet again the blame falls on Hughes.

As I stated I have given Hughes as much stick as the next blue at times this season but I really dont believe that he can do much when no matter what decision he makes the outcome is its his fault!

I am also tired of the constant knee-jerk reactions, we had been on a nice little run and everyone is saying how great we are and how when we win on Saturday we are in 7th and only 6 points behind Everton. Saturday comes, we get beat and we are awful, all of a sudden the fixture list looks harder than it did 90 minutes earlier, we might still get relegated and Hughes should be sacked! Every week its the same, if we win we are a bunch of World beaters and if we lose we are the worst team to have ever played the game! Only at City!

I disagree tbh mate, i think if his tactics were correct and he picked the right team for each game then we would win and he would not be in a lose - lose situation.

I think its unfair to single out Robinho and Elano, nobody played well today and nobody showed any real fight today. Thats all down to Hughes, he has to install a work ethic and team spirit and he has got neither. This is unquestionably his team now. 12 players in for £118mil!! he is flat out of excuses.

The problems lie in the system which doesnt fit the personnel, we arnt getting the ball to Elano, RObinho, Ireland in areas where they can be effective. These players should be receiveing the ball in the final 1/3, not having to come deep and collect the ball or try and win high bals against players 5/6 inches taller than them!

I agree to a certain extent with what you say especially the part about selecting the right team, unfortunately for me picking the right team away from home would see Robinho sat on the bench, now what you need to ask is a) Can a manager play a £32 million player in home games only? b) How long will Robinho put up with this? c) When Robinho then starts sulking how long will it be before Hughes gets the blame from fans again with comments such as "hughes cant handle big name players"?

I am not fully in the Hughes IN camp because he does a lot of things that baffle me but I do think he gets blamed for a lot of things that isnt his fault, I mean how many managers out there would leave Robinho on the bench for 50% of games?

Sorry its not a good post, the answer with Robinho is simple - He's on 160 grand a week, he should be motivated enough for fuckin' away games. MH can either sort that out or he can't.

Okay, you're all for giving him the sympathy vote. That it's not all his fault. Fair do's.

But why don't you answer the question? Which was why should Hughes stay? What does he bring to the club?

Answer that rather than copping out with a pitiful attempt at trying to be even-handed.

List the good things Hughes will bring to City now and in the future...

Because he is not responsible for the performance of the players for the 90 minutes.
Of course he is, he buys, prepares and selects them.

I hereby propose that you are made the official spokesman of the Hughes In brigade, superb post.
So he should stay because he's in a no win situation? Say that out loud to yourselves "NO WIN", that is your justification for him remaining as manager of Manchester City? Brilliant!

The funny thing is I voted for him to be sacked in the last poll on here but at that moment in time the circumstances were completely different, we had just been beaten at WBA and the transfer window was almost upon us and I thought a new top name manager coupled with massive spending power in January could give us a kick up the backside. Even funnier is I never wanted Hughes in the 1st place yet here I am saying lay off the guy and the main reason for this is at this stage of the season I see absolutely no point in sacking him, a new manager cant come in and buy anyone and whilst the initial results may improve due to 'New Manager Syndrome' it gives a false reality. The ONLY new manager I want is Mourinho yet he will be impossible to get at this moment in time but he may be available in the Summer so I think we should wait it out.

My original post may have given the impression that I fully back Hughes, I dont. I dont see him being the man to take us to Premiership and Champions League glory but I also dont see anyone else available at the moment who can do this either. We need a truly World Class manager in charge to a) Take us to the top and b) Get the best out of the likes of Robinho but there are few World Class managers about and theres even less who would be willing to leave their clubs at this stage of the season whilst challenging for the Champs League to come to City.

For now I think we should lay off Hughes and let him complete his job until the end of the season, if people want rid of him then fair enough because our choice of new manager may be more impressive but for now his hands and Citys hands are tied so lets back him for the next 13 Premiership games even if they are his last at the club!

You talk a lot of sense and sum up my feelings on the MH issue.
To change now would be pointless, we need to take a step back at the end of the season and see where we are, I fail to believe we will get relegated or for that matter now finish top 8 after Stoke and Pompy, both games i had down as wins if we were to get top 7 finish. UEFA cup is the only thing to look forward to.

We got beat away from home so the manager should go? Bollox.

It's obviously not twigged with some of the er, newer, members here but we do not have a divine right to win every game. One of the qualities that make a proper City fan is the ability to take defeat on the chin and move on. Doing an impression of a plastic and calling for the manager to be sacked is laughable (if not slightly embarassing)
You may say i have my Blue tinted specs on but i have to question those posters who only seem to contribute to the boards after we've lost.

Ah well, must've all gone home...

How about.......Because we have to make a stand and back our manager as opposed to the prima donna superstars that arent performing because an element within the team dont wont Hughes as manager and would sooner have a Brazilian manager who is now looking for a way back intothe premiership. I realise it sounds like a conspiracy but Robbie didnt even do the basics on Saturday,it was embarrassing to say the least !

If we had have beaten Pompey how many fans on here would be blaming him for not playing Elano all season?
