Only Biertent where you do not need a seat to order beer is the Hofbräu zelt which is the biggest and holds around 10,000 people.

In all the other tents you are not allowed to drink while standing.

The Theresienwiese is just one stop from the main railway station on the U5. Don't try nicking the glasses, they check at the station etc and will charge people.
You can buy them cheap in the city anyway.

The security and cops at the Fest are used to drunks obviously, they won't stop you having a laugh. But Munich cops come down on violence, vandalism, p#ssing in the street etc like a ton of bricks.

Have a good time but stay the right side of common sense

Just a heads up anyone going to Oktoberfest you are in for a fucking good time, this has to be the best away draw ever at that time of year you couldn't wish for a better time, last time I went I fell asleep in my 8th stein, and dont forget to visit the Hofbrauhouse it's brilliant.

Full of Japanese and American tourists, avoid it like the plague, they allow no football colours either.
The Hofbräuhaus is "cartoon Bavaria" an expensive rip off, I bet it was great back in the 30's but not now.

Go in the "Augustiner am Platzl" just around the corner opposite the Hard Rock cafe instead. Better bier, better prices, genuine locals, friendly staff and a few tasty barmaids.
Please don't damage the place though lads it's my pre-match local !!

If you really want to go to a Bierkeller visit the Löwenbräukeller on Stiglmaierplatz, full of history and not as many tourists. Better beer than the Hofbräuhaus too.

I love the Hofbräuhaus. Sure it is full of tourists but it`s a great place to pick up Japanese, American and Australian birds who are backpacking through Europe. Absolutely anyone's after a couple of Mass.

BTW.... A Mass is what the locals call a liter of beer or what English people call a Stein. Me and my mates just call them Leroys as in Leroy Lita.

Besides the Oktoberfest which is called "Wiesn" here, you should visit one of the great beergardens. For englishmen I would propose the beergarden at the "Chinesische Turm" in the english garden. Its a nice park north of the centre. Football colours and singing is no problem there. As long as you stay polite bavarians are easy to deal with.
