Old Family Member Bites the Dust

My car has a dodgy sensor on the inlet manifold that sometimes causes a warning light on the dash when its cold. It latches the fault code, so even if the fault isn't present the warning persists unless it is reset.

I discovered that on my make/model you can do a manual reset without a code reader which clears any code no longer present and makes the warning light go off. On mine it involves a sequence of turning off and back on whilst pressing the accelerator pedal a number of times. Other cars it requires you to disconnect the battery for a short period.

Worth checking out to see if it can be done on your car.

I had a car rental business and had 3 Corsas on fleet, engineered by Lotus, 3 cylinder engines.... great. Just short of 15,000 miles one gave up and needed repairing so I just took it off the road until the contract was up and the leasing Co came to collect. Then a few weeks later another gave up at 15,000 miles so I did the same thing. When the collection drivers came to collect I got talking and it turns out that all the Corsas they had collected had all developed faults at around 15,000. I later found out that a fault was designed and engineered into the engine somewhere to give up at 15,000 miles thus forcing the owner to take it in to a Vauxhall dealership for repair or the warranty became null and void.
On the other hand I have quite a few old engines that where made in the late 50's early 60's, start first time and will run for another 60 yrs. Cant beat good old nuts and bolts engineering.
