Old Maine Road photos thread

I know the header you’re referring to mate as it was in that clip with Malcolm’s interview.
Incidentally....did you notice who crossed the ball from the left ,perfect cross,in limited space, with a left foot,I thought he's done well to get a good high cross in from there...was it Michael Robinson? Whoever it was did very well and set Daley up for his big moment....he must have closed his eyes as he connected with the ball.
Daley,by all accounts ran the wolves central midfield week in week out, you could see Big Mal
wanting the energy of a Colin Bell type player, and that late run into the box unmarked was a trait of Bell.....I feel for the lad,you can see in the signing on footage,he looked bewildered with all the media attention ,and he looks nervous on the pitch v wba...bit like Savihnio now maybe...
Daley made the England B squad back in the day iirc, and it was,on paper a good signing,if over priced.." there are no bad footballers, just bad circumstances.."

I’d say that was Robinson, yes.

Asa Hartford hasn’t changed that much. I remember the days he would take a shot from outside the area, the ball went like a balloon, sailing high over the crossbar. My brother would always laugh out loud:)
Funny you should say that..I think it was Asa who joined Forest late on in his career,Brian Clough obviously thought he still had it..
During a friendly match Asa took a long range shot at goal and Clough hauled him off immediately ,sending a sub on...in Brian's mind ,only certain players took shots ,and central midfield players were not one of them.
"Give the ball to John Robertson son, that's your job "
I may have got the player mixed up with someone else but I think it was Asa
" True story " ; )

I feel your pain. I began watching City the season after......God knows what it was like watching the Blues away season B4,must have been torture.
It was 'must go' cos you didn't want to miss the away game when we won.
First it was Wolves in the LC and then we won at Bradford City (4-2) when Stewart got a hat trick. Honestly the buzz from winning was unbelievable.

The pressure to win games now means I rarely celebrate, more about thinking about the next game. And the NEED to win again.

In those days the joy was fantastic and you bounced into school/college/work!

I can imagine that buzz.
That wolves away win in the cup id completely forgotten about, wasn't there...

And .. somehow,in a season when I started watching City home and away ,I missed Bradford away....not sure how that happened , but I've heard many brilliant stories from blues about that game.....I do remember that Bradford City were top of the league at the time....but as you will know from those old days....Mel Machin homegrown youngsters just turned up and put in a performance backed by a vociferous away following and history was made.

I've seen footage of that Bradford game obviously, and I still to this day don't know how Paul Stewart scored that goal when he ran from nearly the halfway line at full pelt before finishing with the outside of his right foot, burying the ball with such power away from the keeper...I just think wow,how do you get that power on the outside of your boot running at full speed
A brilliant goal,a Brilliant Blue Bradford night......and I effing missed it.
Typical City !

The changing face of our support right there, if we are not extremely careful we wont grow any more with that passion.

No phones, no stuffing of faces with food just people watching the football of all ages.
Agreed. I remember those days on the Kippax, not at the front, but halfway line half way down, near the away fans...and it was Brilliant,as an out of town Blue being accepted by all around,if u got there late, which I often was( recording collecting in the underground market, not drinking in those days !!) id always find me mates from the supporters club pretty easily as we always stood in roughly the same area....id walk down the steps at the halfway line,then..about halfway down...look for our crowd.,..luckily at the time we had big Niall a tall Irish Blue and he stood out as a landmark and id bury my way through the throng to be greeted ,often with a rare Kraftwerk or Siouxsie and the Banshees 7" under me coat.....I miss those days....miss record collecting too,but being part of the Blue army ,home and away put paid to that.

I was so happy on the Kippax, always felt like home to me,made loads of mates, lots of great memories and the northern banter ,which took some getting used to...made every single match a happy event, win or lose......then came the booze ! ; )

Wow mate. Don't wanna sound like this is some sort of 'love in' but what a description of Stewart's goal.
Better than we'd get now with shouty bollocks on Sky 'S T E W A R T.!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Then we'd have that Valencia failure telling us how he'd timed his run 'fantastically well' and it's a 'very clever finish'!

Oh for the good old days!

Young Bernard caught this while he was keeping an eye on the Jaguar, which is the sort of responsibility that comes with working alongside a man of my standing. If that dog leaves its business there I will have Bernard invoice it, simple as that. ‘Commit no nuisance’ applies to all species in my book.

I told him to get the shot sharpish. Real football, scruffy, happening under my stewardship while the rest of the football world chases glamour it will never understand.

And you know, years from now these youngsters might well claim they learned their trade in the shadow of Maine Road with Peter Swales overseeing the lot, quietly shaping the future as only I can.
