Olivia’s killer guilty - Minimum of 42 years

Not contected to the thread title but, in reponse to some of the comments, i just wanted to stick up for the majority of teenagers. I teach secondary school kids and the vast, vast majority of them are wonderful, rounded human beings who would go out of their way to help anyone in need. I know many who hate the fact that the one or two bad pennies give them all a bad name. Most are not vile and despise the few that are.

Statistically the 90s were much more violent than now.

According to the Crime Survey for England and Wales, violent crime peaked in 1995 and has fallen by over two-thirds since then. In recent years, those falls have largely flattened out.

Nearly five in every 100 adults aged 16 and over were estimated to have been victims of violent crime in 1995. In 2016/17, fewer than two in 100 adults were.

This is one of the most worrying aspects of how society is going. There did used to be a kind of loose code that certain people were off limits. Kids, women, families and the elderly. Now they're just in the way and if they are they get wasted like the others. The days a woman or adult could step in and the yobs listened have long gone.

And a fist fight a thing of the past..glad I'm approaching 50 and I don't go out

I agree there have always been bad families and yobs but the majority weren't. I actually feel sorry for today's kids they're the victims too of the feral shitbags that the courts seem to allow to terrorise estates and businesses with impunity. The police often arrest them but the courts give them a slap on the wrist and out they go to carry on bringing misery to others

I'm 53 and yes those days seem long gone.
I walk my 2 dogs around some woods in Bury which can be full of idiots at weekend evenings, but seeing as my dogs are German Shepherds and are nails I don't seem to get any mither
 
A simply horrific crime and I hope the criminals involved are quickly caught and brought to justice. The thing that concerns me is that the investigating force are the same ones who thought it was OK to publish the route of a bus on its' way to Anfield, which subsequently was subject to numerous acts of vandalism, and not a single arrest was made. It is simple acts of poor policing like that, that send out messages to the criminal world that it's worth taking the risk.

I'm older and do go out. Certain pubs I'm more wary in, it's the transport there and back that's the worse part. A fair few old boys near me go out in the afternoon and are back home by 8pm before things get too lively

Some good data goes to show not much change from the 70s, big spike in early 2000s from Dr Shithead.

The rose tinted specs of the 70s and 80s when people got the shit kicked out of them and battered with weapons for following a club or being from another town.

Legalising drugs takes away the power of the criminals and you invest the tax gained into rehabilitation instead.

It's just the same clichés after any awful incidences... ''this country is f*cked'' , soceity is broken'' people were saying this back in the 60's/70's
