How do you know it wasn't a priority?

It is January ffs, a difficult window at the best of times, never mind when unexpected clubs with emerging good players on long term contracts are challenging for important places. Nobode needs to or wants to sell.

Honestly, if we can actually pull off the 3 signings that are rumoured to be in the works, on top of Echeverri also coming in, it will be an incredible January the likes of which have never been seen and might not be for a long long time. And people are upset that we arent signing players, when in the last 10 january windows we signed maybe 2 in total.

Why would it be incredible? Marmoush looks a good player, but this is his first real stand out season, and the other two are expensive gambles.

The midfield can’t win possession, the defence can’t defend, and the forwards don’t score enough goals consistently. This team needs a complete overhaul, and I would contend that the coaching staff needs scrutinising very closely. We have become a very easy team to dominate!

And we have a goal keeper that doesn't want to be here, and have to rely on a no.2 that isn't good enough to be no.1. Since you are going all in.

Marmoush is a good age and should be a good replacement for Alvarez, but otherwise the signings do nothing for our current troubles.

If we don't have a quality midfielder by 1 Feb, this window has been another failure.

Honestly, the truth lies inbetween both of you. The players we are signing are very exciting and it’s great to have them. Many clubs wanted them and they are hopefully going to have long careers here. But equally, there’s also no doubt that our main issues are not resolved by those players. Both things are true. But I’m certain we’re not done after these 3, so let’s hope we get what we need.

Signing Marmoush should have little to no impact on our supposed efforts to sign a DM, and Haaland more or less being the only one delivering goals regularly is also a big concern.

With that said, we've known for months that we desperately need a quality DM. We are one of the richest clubs in the world, with possibly the biggest scouting network in the world. That the club despite all this has failed to identify and sign a single midfielder halfway trough January, with a schedule of PSG/Chelsea/Brugge/Arsenal coming up starting next week and our season more or less could be over after this run of fixtures, its hard to argue thats anything but another failure in the transfer market. It's time the club start actually solving our issues instead of "working" on them. They've had months to solve our issues and are paid huge money to deliver. We are now just a few days before what could be a season defining run of fixtures and no reinforcements have arrived. I get that its hard to do business in January, but thats simply not good enough.

That said Arsenal got Zubimendi and they have Rice!

Important to get the right man rather than any man or we have another Phillips to loan out and have to pay their wages for five years.

If we don’t get one it doesn’t mean we haven’t tried. We may have to wait until the Summer. If we don’t get one after the next window then I would understand the annoyance although Rodders will be back and Pep might think we have a youngster who can be back up by then!

Just have to trust City. We’ve already admitted we messed up by not strengthening last window.

A midfielder who can defend and get forward a bit should still come in and would get plenty of game time once Rodri is back. We badly miss a 6 without Rodri but we no longer even have a decent 8

But we don't need a Rodri replacement, we need a Gundo replacement.

At least, that's what I hope the club realises.

Evidence based? Clearly not! That DM spot is causing havoc week in week out, this is a priority position and the other potential signings could be staved off until summer. We will now pay over the odds for players that can already do them jobs, bear in mind they are all a gamble as not yet at a proven level, we never go for top draw established players.

The reason they can get Zubimendi whilst having Rice is because Rice plays as an 8. Partey is their 6 and he’s going to jail, hence Zubimendi. Whereas Rodri is our 6 and should always be our 6. Zubimendi would not be a good signing for us. He’d be great for this season, but not beyond. His weaknesses are the same as Rodri’s. What we need is a 6/8 hybrid who has legs and energy to compliment Rodri when Rodri is back. That isn’t Zubimendi. I’m relieved we’re not getting him as I want to believe our club knows what they’re doing.
