Because we’re over two weeks into the window (after watching the lack of midfield cost us for nearly 3 months) and there hasn’t been any kind of strong link with us to a DM.

Therefore the huge hole in the side remains and continues to cost us points we can no longer afford to drop.

The other signings are positive of course but I don’t think you can say it’ll have been a window of the like never seen before. How much are the young defenders actually going to play?
Of course I can (if it happens). I don't think people seem to know the difference between a summer window and a winter one. Name me a January window when we have signed 3 players commited to other clubs, to come into the first team. On top of Echeverri also coming in and Bobb returning from injury. That's a big big boost to the squad.

Look I don't disagree we need a DM one bit, or even that it should be the first thing to happen this window. But to assume the club haven't thought about it and aren't trying is just daft mate. We couldn't find one in the summer, it is even harder now in January. I think we may have to come to terms with the fact we may not sign one in the next two weeks.

Still won't be a failure of a window, not if we sign other players we also desperately need, particularly with such promise and demand.

That's ok, the Alvarez money covers this along with the two other anticipated signings this window. And leaves enough for a DM as well.
Some people think that transfers fix everything but look at Chelsea. It took them years to get the best out of their signings. A player who fits one side may have to adapt to fit another. Occasionally new signings can come in and transform a side immediately. I remember Beagrie, Rosler and Walsh arriving and City for a period became an exciting side. Savinho was a very exciting player in La Liga. He has been completely useless for City for the first 4 months of this season. Now he is beginning to play.

I believe Dias and Bobb are the critical players for City this season, and possibly Marmoush if he is a genuine world class player. I doubt any other signings will have much effect.

The immediate tasks are to qualify for the KO stage of the CL (signings are irrelevant), get back in the top 4 and win the FA Cup. Rodri may return in May. If he does, what happens to any DM signing? Any signings we make have to work long term. I don't like loan signings.

We have Rodri and Kovacic. It will be almost impossible to sign better players than this in the January window. City's problem is short term in this position. I don't think we should sign a player who from May will be redundant given that most players take months to adapt. If City could defend properly (Dias returning), or if we had attacking players who could play with more intensity, then we'd keep the ball better and win it back more often. I don't think there is enough realisation as to how costly playing KDB and Gundogan were in City's team. We cannot play both. We have improved now that Kovacic has returned, and we will improve further if Bobb returns on form, or if Marmoush comes assuming he is as good as his form suggests. Ideally KDB's fitness may improve a little with games / training. He has missed so much football.
The problem isn't short term.

It isn't just Rodri's injury that's killing us, it's not replacing Gundogan.

If Rodri comes back tomorrow, we still need to sign another CM.

Look at our Feb/march sequence of games re. the bad run being over....
By bad run I meant losing every single game. I am aware we will drop more points in the more difficult games, but we also played well at Brentford, a ground that is very difficult to play at and still have Dias and Bobb to return. Dias is important to our defence.

I would like City to sign players because the squad is small and I think Walker, Gundogan and KDB need to be replaced but any signings we make are most probably going to be effective for next season. It's unusual for players to hit the ground running. Sometimes it works that way, sometimes they flop, usually they take months to adapt.

And Funny how some think Txiki is just at home on the phone throwing in a random bid, having his tea then checking his phone to see if it’s been accepted or not. txiki and his team will be having daily meetings with them for hours I persume discussing everything involved. He’s not doing all this via text.
come get serious Txiki is sat reading bluemoon and thinking this will be fun

Winning games is what matters. I think our bad run is over but injuries have left our small squad very exposed. We need players to replace Walker, Gundogan and KDB and much as I like Stones and Ake, how often do they play?

Savinho has taken half a season to adapt. Doku is still developing. Arguably Bobb has a higher potential than any forward signing but his development is not guaranteed

The best performing players in the Premier League are players from City's academy (Palmer, Rogers and Delap). I am a bit disappointed that Pep has not given O'Reilly and Mcatee more games.
Mcatee getting slaughtered for missing a chance and Savinho letting winger just cross the ball is his fault

We can’t rely on kovacic. He will be injured soon. That is who he is.

We need an upgrade on kovacic and someone who is capable of playing next to Rodri. Preferably someone who is quick and has good stamina. There will be plenty of options

I really can't get my head round Pep bringing Kovacic on the pitch against Salford when 5-0 up for the last 20 mins.Maybe in doing that, he had to come off last night. Strange one that with all these games coming thick n fast.

We still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League. The attack isn't an issue for this season.

Given the chances we have been missing, I disagree. We have scored 12 goals less than this time last year. I'd say attack is as much of an issue and could even go as far as compensating for our lacking in midfield. As could improving the injury hit defence.

Which happens to be pretty much what the club are doing, oddly.

If he couldn't hack 20 mins against Salford he wouldn't have been fit to play at all last night. Players need minutes as well as rest, that would have been like a training session for him.

We see things differently pal. I'd of had him n Foden in cotton wool rather than risk em.

Not signing a DM would without a doubt be a massive failure and more or less a statement that we have given up on achieving anything this season.
