10.00 tonight on sky modern greats. if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and get it watched.

did you know that film is based on a true story?
The guy who wrote it worked for the CIA in the 60's and went under-cover in mental hospitals to give patients mind-bending drugs and report back to the CIA with the results

hah i hadnt heard that but that sounds like an even better plot for a film. cia sends man into asylum to carry out covert operations, then his handler and/or the only people who know his role is mysteriously killed/disapears then this sane man spends the rest of the film trying to convince psychiatrists he really is in the cia. of course the final irony being that the ordeal sends him mad for real and he spends the rest of his life in there.

as for the film, vaguely remember seeing it but ive definitely read the book and thats brilliant.

i may have to cop out on the ending.. like i've done many times before.

:(

No that is totally untrue.

Its written by Ken kesey the legendary leader of the merry pranksters, one of the first LSD movements, he worked part time in a mental hostpital and observed the patients in their sad lives and wrote the book while there.
At the same time he was taking part in drugs trials, one of which was LSD, he got his hands on some and with the profits from his book toured the country in a multicoloured school bus called furthur.

If you havent read about the merry pranksters and the beginning of LSD and acid rock, then I STRONGLY advise you to read "the electric kool aid acid test" by Tom Wolfe... one of my favourite books.
