Anyone remember the City FC flag that flew at Maine Rd from 1923 to 1960s? I’ve written this with images of it:

While we’re at it… When were the first seats installed on the Kippax at Maine Rd? It may actually be earlier than many believe. Follow the link for the story:

62 I started going roof was on the Kippax by then so no flag,it was put up over the old scoreboard (open end behind goals). The new North stand was built at the scoreboard end start of the 70s don't know what happened to the flag after.

Yes, I mention that it was moved to the Scoreboard End when the Kippax was roofed. Then it was ‘taken’ by rival fans apparently.

That was a different style. They used to have a Manchester City flag and a Junior Blues flag, but not the earlier City FC flag. They used to have quite a few flags on the North Stand roof when it was first erected.
I remember the flags on the North Stand. First started going in 72/73. I remember gawping at, I would guess 20-odd different flags stretched across the front of the new stand. I thought there was one for all the clubs in the division? Maybe wrong- it is 52+ years ago?

If I remember right they were national flags but I’ll do some digging. As you say it was a long time ago but I used to stare at them from the Platt Lane opposite.

I’m sure there were matches when the opposition had their flag flying alongside the City flag

A flag? Jeez, I can barely remember Maine Road!
It was, I believe, a football stadium in Moss Side but that may be a myth as football was little known in Manchester in those days. Lacrosse was the big thing then. There was also cricket at the old Warwick Road venue.

I didn’t recall benches on the Kippax. They were put in the Platt Lane stand.

City liked the idea and installed seats in the Platt Lane soon after - I think they were different colours for different sections.

Remember it flying beside the scoreboard in 1969 at my first match. Believe rags pulled it down at 67 ,68 derby, sad c***s.
