Ah, we used to get the train to Warwick Road Station for about two old pence and into the cricket all day for about 1s and 3d. i remember Jack Dyson seeing of those hooligans from across the hills, and it was also the scene of Boycott dropping a catch. Oh how the fuck we laughed. It was, I believe, a football stadium in Moss Side but that may be a myth as football was little known in Manchester in those days. Lacrosse was the big thing then. There was also cricket at the old Warwick Road venue.
We used to spot the score from the train as we pulled into Warwick Road.Ah, we used to get the train to Warwick Road Station for about two old pence and into the cricket all day for about 1s and 3d. i remember Jack Dyson seeing of those hooligans from across the hills, and it was also the scene of Boycott dropping a catch. I'm pretty sure they were the flags of every team in the Division, but I'm also sure this practice was short-lived. No more than one season. If I remember right they were national flags but I’ll do some digging. As you say it was a long time ago but I used to stare at them from the Platt Lane opposite.
I’ve found this photo from November 1972. It’s hard to work out but there doesn’t appear to be enough flags for all 22 Div 1 clubs. I know the Union Flag was included too. I’ll keep looking for better images and hopefully we’ll confirm. I can’t help thinking 74-75 would’ve been the season to show flags of all top flight clubs.I'm pretty sure they were the flags of every team in the Division, but I'm also sure this practice was short-lived. I once did a morning at the cricket, an hour of ten-pin bowling at the Stretford Bowl, Maine Road and Belle Vue Aces all in one day.Ah, we used to get the train to Warwick Road Station for about two old pence and into the cricket all day for about 1s and 3d. i remember Jack Dyson seeing of those hooligans from across the hills, and it was also the scene of Boycott dropping a catch.
