One for the book worms....

Check out Blue Moon Rising by Green, It's fantasy fiction but it's really tongue in cheek and is a fantastic read. He also wrote the Hawk & Fisher series, which is a crime series but in a fantasy setting.
The best series he wrote is the Deathstalker series. It's a cross between Star Wars/Dune/Aliens and just about every other sci-fi or fantasy book you care to mention. He blatantly rips off so many other authors and genres that it doesn't really matter. The books are non stop action from start to finish, really gory too. It's pure pulp fiction and it's brilliant. You need to read them in order though.
Thanks Stony... seems interesting... i like the genre...

Well, iv read two books now! I read Gang War which was about Manchester gangs and their feuds! Mentions Chris Little as well if you have heard of him. Then I read 'The Catcher In The Rye', I thought it was quite a charming book but was really disappointed with myself for missing some of the key themes (I went on wiki) and I never got that he was talking from a mental facility! Doh, maybe my brain cells will start coming back one day! I felt better for having read it actually, I dont know why, maybe when I kill Fergie they will find it in my back pocket!

Next - American Psycho

Read 1984 which i thought was good but was let down slightly with the ending.

Currently reading The Ragged Trousered Phillatrophists which is a great read can't but it down

'1984' has been mentioned a few times and is on my wish list, as is 'The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists'

I started reading American Psycho last night but couldnt get straight into like I did with the other two! Maybe I need to give myself a few more days before I really try and get into it!

Peter James has written some great books. Love 'em, and highly recommend.

I'm a huge Peter James fan... I've got all his novels, the Roy Grace series being my favourite... IMO one of the best crime writers of all time... Call me crazy but when I read his stuff it reminds me so much of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes but in the 21st Century.

JoTS... If you have details of this event I'd like to know.

P.S. If anyones interested Peter James's Roy Grace novels are

Dead Simple
Looking Good Dead
Not Dead Enough
Dead Man's Footsteps.

Pearcey, if you want me to get you a signed copy or anything, give us a shout.
He'll be appearing at the Mining Institute here in Newcastle on 1 December. Details should be on his website.

hehehe

I'm having a break from fiction at the minute. I've switched instead to poetry of the thirties. WH Auden, Louise McNeice etc. All very good.

You must be an accomplished reader then JOTS! I read poems as a kid and as a student but not for a long time and nothing serious. I have not even heard of the poets you mention...maybe when im older ;)

Just have a go. Next time you're down the library, have a quick wander through the poetry section and pick some you like the look of. You can read some poems while the kettle boils, others are hugely difficult epics. But it's usually rewarding.

Iv not been in a library for more than 10 years, do you have to buy a membership card!?

Nope. It's also National Year of Reading, so you won't even have to show ID.

*Scratches head in confusion....not because of the nits*

So how does it work then?

Berger1985:Hello, I'd like to join the library please.
Librarian: Certainly, just fill out this form. You can even borrow my pen.
Berger1985: Here you go.
Librarian: Please hang on a minute while I add you to the system. And here's your library card.
Berger1985: Great, where's the porn at?

On the ID thing, I can't speak for all authorities, but most of the major city library services have done away with ID checks and don't ask. Surprisingly, book losses haven't increased at all.

Haha JOTS' library joining guide for idiots! My nearest library is a 3 minute walk away (Reddish) might bob in tomorrow! It really suprises me that loads of books arent stolen, maybe library users are the least likely to steal then!

The Roy Grace Novels are excellent.

Do you like R J Ellory?

He caught my imagination with Candlemoth and, although his other books are good, Candlemoth has to be the best book I have read in the last 12 months. My palms were actually sweating as I read the last 50 pages or so.
