o'neill on his way

i think it's a bit like Gary Johnson at Bristol. sometimes a manager, a team and the fans relationship gets a bit stale and it's time to part company. my guess is he'll try and beat chelsea in the FA cup and fuck off at the end of the season.

End of the season though i guess, he probably knows they're not getting 4th place, and will end up at Liverpool next season after they sell us Torres and Benitez resigns in anger.

Or something like that.

may be its the players and not the chairman that has the problem with him

Martin O’Neill was forced to cancel a sunshine break in Portugal with his players – because they refused to go.

The Aston Villa boss planned to take his squad away for a four-day holiday this week after gaining the permission of the club’s American owner Randy Lerner.

Lerner was ready to pay for the break to help re-charge his players’ batteries ahead of the crunch FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea a week on Saturday.

But the entire Villa squad decided they would prefer to stay at home in Birmingham instead, or make their own arrangements for a break with friends and family.

Suggestions each player was threatened with a £5,000 fine for refusing to agree to the Portugal jaunt have been denied by sources close to the squad.

But one source revealed that club captain Stiliyan Petrov was sent to see O’Neill to tell him the squad weren’t interested in going away together.

“The players asked Petrov to go and speak with the manager to see if they could get the trip cancelled,” said the source.

O’Neill has spent the last couple of weeks waiting for a break in a packed March schedule in which Villa played six games in 21 days.

He had pinpointed this week or next, ahead of the Wembley FA Cup showdown with Chelsea, as the ideal time for a break.

But O’Neill was left staggered when his players reported back stating they did not want to go on an organised club trip so soon after their 7-1 Premier League humiliation at Stamford Bridge.

Only a few weeks ago O’Neill hinted it was virtually impossible to get well-paid stars to agree to bonding trips as a club, because they would prefer to do their own thing.

He said after the Chelsea debacle: “We will try our best to have a rest. I don’t think any of the boys wants to think about Chelsea and talk about it because it’s a result that everyone wants to forget and get out of the way as quickly as possible.”

O'Neill to Liverpool is a good shout, should O'neill leave Villa

Bad move for Villa should they lose O'Neill though

Hard to believe really ..... he's not been there that long.

But he's a perfectionist , sets himself targets , and the final straw for him probably came at Chelsea and those seven goals!

I wonder if he's set to return to Celtic?

They would be crazy to let him go!

Cant stand his squeaky voice but he has done great job and taken them along way!!!

Cant see anyone doing a better job!!

Hope the fans are happy if he is hounded out coz they hardly gave him their full support!!!

If Hughes ends up there aleast Dunne will be pleased to see him ;)

Think Villa have reached a cross roads, from snippets I've read and heard it seems the owner is more reluctant to invest in the playing staff, I think O'neill realises that if anything the gap between Villa and the top 4 is only going to get bigger especially with ours and Spurs ever improvng squads as well. Good manager though, could this be the start of the of the much publicised manager merry go round!?
