What's the catch as they don't seem to charge interest. Do they just hammer people with penalty charges if they're late with payment?

I'm not too sure.

I haven't missed one yet, but they are very easy to speak with.

If your going to use them, i would advise buying a smaller item.

I have always wondered how they benefit out of this long term.

From looking into it, it works the same way as the PayPal credit accounts where you get it interest free, as long as you make the minimum payments and pay off the balance in full before the end of the free period. If you miss the payment or don’t pay it off then the rate goes to about 18.9%
