Only a fool would buy Ashley Cole

I would see how Vlad Marin fits in during pre-season before we can consider signing Ashley Cole. He could save us money in the long run if he does impress.
 
We bought maicon for a virtual free transfer and he was every bit as good a full back as Cole was. Very few have been.

Cole is past his best and on the decline. But he's 32 and 1 year older than Maicon.

We'd be mad to use up 100k wage bill for a player who is not as good as Clichy and who will deteriorate.
 
Why would we rotate Cole and Clichy? They are similar players, however, I'd take Clichy over Cole. At least with Kolarov we have a different type of player.

exactly, Kolarov is a cracking player off the bench because of his set piece ability
 
Kolarov has something that Cole can't do, strike a ball. I'd have Clichy and Kolarov both ahead of Cole

In the past Cole was one of the best, but we're talking about the future here.

At least with Cole we'd have two DEFENDERS, as opposed to a defender and a winger-esque barmpot who can give it a good crack.
