Why not just offer domestic partnerships to opposite-sex couples? Seems like what's available for gays should be available for everyone.

Very useful for keeping property separated so it doesn't become community property.

Civil partnership's were (and correct me if I'm wrong) brought in as a legal way to show commitment as a 'normal' marriage wasn't an option for gays.

For a hetro couple this isn't the case.

Live together or get married but stop fucking bleating. I'd like to think they are covering their own court costs but I doubt it.
