Just been walking along the canal and there was a toddler (maybe four years old) in a small, but perfectly formed car which his mum was controlling with a remote control whilst the kid was 'steering' it. I'm assuming she had 'control' of it because the kid didn't and was close to the canal.

It just made me wonder when did orange crates, pram wheels and build your own bogies go out of fashion?

My money is on when Pole Position first came out...

We used to make bogies out of the wheels old prams we found in the canal in Gorton, next to Debdale Park, no electric drills in them days, we used to burn holes with a red hot poker through the wood to put the nut and bolts through. Could get up to 15mph if the hill was steep enough. Usually used Tan Yard Brow....lol!

I used to have an old 3 wheeler bike ( don't see them anymore) with the metal box with lid on the back, it used to make a racket going over the gaps in the pavement. Some of us more mature BMers will remember, Anyway,I used to tie our old Lab to a piece of washing line and tie that to the front of said bike and chuck a stick. All hell would break loose for a few mind bending seconds. It was later upgraded by adding a brush and a bottle of fairy liquid as I attempted for some reason to clean the gutters down our road much to the despair of the neighbours.

I remember doing the same thing with a Honda 50 on one of them....all of us lined the street throwing conkers and acorns at whoevers go it was.
Happy (but dangerous) days ;O)

Bogies. I spent bloody ages making one only for the wheels to die on the test run.
