Thinking of switching from MTB/hybrid to road bikes. Any advice?

Anyone own an Orro bicycle? Any good? Had a quick look at one yesterday, whilst getting a new tyre and some repair advice.

Anyone used the bike to work scheme this last decade? Still worth it?

Any recommendations for a bike shop? I quite like the look of Never Mind the Bike Shops.

Wouldn't like to give advice on a road bike, there are just too many options (Frame material & your budget being just two).
I am currently buying a bike on bike to work scheme and it is saving me a packet, and was easy to set up, although that might depend on your employer.

My only advice on moving to a drop bar bike is that hydraulic disc brakes should be non negotiable. You have to spend a chunk to get there but anything less is just not up to the job given current tech.

You could argue quality traditional style calipers are fine but you don't get them on a gravel bike. The key that makes them so popular is they are fast but with bigger tyres with bigger stopping power and better control.

For people on a budget Decathlon bikes B'twin are great value..never do Halfords. They are a French company I believe hence the good experienced manufacturer (think tour de France etc)

Entry level Decathlon bikes are pretty rubbish, but when you hit their mid and top range you get really good value for money.

Decathlon go for some quirky spec choices and they are cheap at the low end. If you know what you are looking for then they are worth consideration. If you just want good value for money then I'd just look up the latest budget bike reviews. Not much in it between big brands.

As someone who's done loads of miles on cheap ish and mid range bikes commuting over the years I dont think there is any magic formula, you get what you pay for, even up to £2k or more. Bikes are basically a frame with a load of smaller components bolted on, some components are significantly better than others and by the time you have decent stuff like; brakes, drive train, wheels etc you are over £1k.
