Look I don't think Mangala is as crap as many did last year I could see potential. Often Vinny played more poorly.

However can you imagine the mirth that would be generated had Uniterd paid 32 million on a defender only to put him on the bench a year later.

It does not make economic sense. And I am sure it is not what City had in mind.

Getting dropped from the world cup squad by Argentina and going back to Brazil on loan for 6 months seems to have triggered some sort of attitude change in him. He was very good under AVB at Porto, then stagnated and fell out with the club which lead to 18 months playing well below potential before he was bought by Valencia and loaned to Atletico Miniero.

Since then he seems to have grown up. Not just in his playing style, but also appearance. He's gone from clean shaven kid with one or two small tattoos to big beard, full sleeves etc. He looks like a completely different person, and he's playing like a much better player.

Thanks for that info. Sounds like he's going to be a success for us.

This clamour for Denayer et al is born of the desire to emulate the rags and their myth of winning everything through their academy products while conveniently ignoring all the transfer records they broke to get there. Personally I hope we spend as much as we can on the worlds best players, win everything there is to win and rub every bastards nose in it.

Looking at his stats it seems he has been a late developer. His international career only really taking off over the last year.

From the City angle having spent 32 mill on a CB last year we weren't expecting to shell out the same amount a year later. Admission that Mangala has been a failure?

Nah! Just proactiveness since Demi won't be around for much longer. See what the chavs are facing in the hands of everton because they are desperate for a decent center back. Quality ones are not usually available at the snap of your fingers

I think this view is somewhat outdated.

To compete to win in 4 competitions, we need proper cover for each and every player on the park.

I expect each of Kompany/Mangala/Otamendi to get lots of playing time during the course of the next 9 months, and either DeMichelis or Denayer to be there as a back up option if needed.
