Interesting read this on what Khaldoon was mentioning about creating world class staff but low-key believe all these head of departments leaving ie poached is to destabilise our club.

Everyone want to copy us so they hire our staff. I was staggered when they broke down the amount of people left or leaving this year. I think referencing the staff leaving in proud way was message to rivals we will only get better.

Sort of gives a lie to the ‘it’s all about money,’ jibes though.

It’s not destabilisation, it’s head hunting and it’s been going on for years. Companies always target the best performing individuals at rival companies and will often offer them rich contracts to lure them away.

When I was working, as part of our overall people management strategy, we kept lists of individuals (and in some cases teams of people) who we might look to hire in future.

As Khaldoon said it’s actually flattering and reflects well on the Club, rather than being a negative. City will have succession plans in place for all key roles and will have a list of potential targets if the talent is not available in-house.

Agreed. It’s a perennial problem for the most successful organisations. I’m sure City will also have a range of retention strategies and well developed succession planning to counter. Inevitable that we’ll lose some good people but our recruitment’s been pretty good so far :)

Like the first team, the backroom staff come back bigger better & more successful every season, we are ever evolving, if other clubs want a piece of last seasons pie they can have it, we’ll already be on with a new bake

Yes. The whole area is in a growth phase as clubs become more ‘scientific’ so they are bound to target the best. We just have to be smart and make sure we are training the next batch.
A bit of a change from running up and down the main stand or, as Harry Redknap once said: “What does a Director of Football do?”
Of course Baconface said “The manager has to control everything.” which partly explains the rags problems over the last decade.
Good article that.

we should hire some absolute tossers and big them up in media. and then lets see who hires him.
sign a chef who cannot cook an egg and release PR stuff that he changed the scene in terms of our nutrition department and the team is so much fitter due to it.
can see Liverpool to take him when they find out its gonna be Heinz Beans microwaved only for breakfast, lunch and dinner + some ubereats ordering...

I’m available for that career path.
