Our best ever player

Stats cannot do justice to the quality of some players, but it seems that Bell was both (slightly) more prolific than KDB and contributed more in defence (judging by what people who watched him regularly say).

Sadly, there are no stats about assists in that period. I would be surprised if Bell assisted goals at the same rate as KDB, though. In terms of seeing and completing incredible passes KDB must be up there with the best in history. If Bell matches him in that department, then he must be our best ever player.

Of course, KDB has won much more but he plays for a better team as well. Hard to compare.

I have said this before a while back.
The best players from the past would still be the best players today. I am not sure the best players from today would be the best players in the past. My reasoning, the pitches. In the past you would not be as successful parking the bus as the bounce of the ball, if it bounced at all some games, was unpredictable, the players would lose their footing and make mistakes. We see it now every game, teams come, park the bus and hope for a breakaway goal. The reason, in my opinion, is the pitch allows them to be ultra tactical as the bounce of the ball is true unlike the past.

Bell was a more rounded player. Kev clearly has more technical ability but Bell was much better at tackling and heading. Bell was the ultimate box-to-box player who drove the team on. You can't compared different eras but Bell would have thrived under Pep because his fitness levels were ahead of the time in the 60s,70s. I would put both of them in the top two with David Silva in third place.

Bell
D. Silva
Rodri
Yaya
Sergio
KDB
Haaland

Our best player is among these but its difficult to choose one above the other.
All the above when playing for us at their peak would walk into any side in the world, think about that! Even those mardarses at Madrid.
You could argue Bernardo and Foden are not far short of this list either.

Imagine the King playing on these pitches , back in the day there was more mud than grass , I remember goin Baseball ground in middle 70s where the referee counted his steps for a penalty that pitch was a sandpit

1977 proper shit tip that day clown of a ref paced 10 yards from goal line for pen, Joe paced 6 yards from 6 yard box like anybody with a brain would so the prick booked him :-( game that cost us the title played on something a Sunday league team would turn down.

Spanish Dave. First season he was so far advanced to everything else we had, he looked average. Playing balls into spaces no one else could see looked like wasted balls. No one gave him the ball where he wanted it - with three marking him. Second season.... what a player. Told him I loved him to his face at Wembley too from 1st row. The look he gave me lives with me to this day :)

Probably David Silva or Kev tho honourable shouts for Vinny, Colin Bell and Sergio imo
