Our best ever player

Stats cannot do justice to the quality of some players, but it seems that Bell was both (slightly) more prolific than KDB and contributed more in defence (judging by what people who watched him regularly say).

Sadly, there are no stats about assists in that period. I would be surprised if Bell assisted goals at the same rate as KDB, though. In terms of seeing and completing incredible passes KDB must be up there with the best in history. If Bell matches him in that department, then he must be our best ever player.

Of course, KDB has won much more but he plays for a better team as well. Hard to compare.

I have said this before a while back.
The best players from the past would still be the best players today. I am not sure the best players from today would be the best players in the past. My reasoning, the pitches. In the past you would not be as successful parking the bus as the bounce of the ball, if it bounced at all some games, was unpredictable, the players would lose their footing and make mistakes. We see it now every game, teams come, park the bus and hope for a breakaway goal. The reason, in my opinion, is the pitch allows them to be ultra tactical as the bounce of the ball is true unlike the past.

Bell was a more rounded player. Kev clearly has more technical ability but Bell was much better at tackling and heading. Bell was the ultimate box-to-box player who drove the team on. You can't compared different eras but Bell would have thrived under Pep because his fitness levels were ahead of the time in the 60s,70s. I would put both of them in the top two with David Silva in third place.
