Our best ever player

No, it doesn't mean he's our best ever player.
 
In order:
Colin Bell, David Silva, Bert Trautman., Rodri, Dave Watson
Why Colin? - just imagine how good he would be today with modern training methods.
 
Sentiment aside, this is best determined by era/generation.

The game has changed SO much that it's almost impossible to make meaningful comparisons.

Imo, Colin Bell is one of few players to transcend the 60s/current level.

Of the modern era imo YAYA will be my choice but it could just of easily have been Sergio,David,Vincent,Zabba,KdB.

Rodders has been elevating himself to global elite level during the last 3 seasons and its only to be hoped that his injury doesn't curtail his career viz Colin Bell.
 
Yaya had a fantastic couple of seasons for us and at the time was probably the best player in the world but David Silva and Aguero performed to a high standard for a longer period, as has KDB. If Rodri stays for a couple more years, I could certainly see him being in the mix. I don't think we've ever had a finer DM.

I'd have my top 5 (in no particular order) as:

Rodri
Silva
Yaya
KDB
Aguero

I never really saw the best years of Bell and if I had, I'm sure he'd be in there too. My personal all time favourites though were Asa Hartford and Gerry Gow.

First time I saw him was away at Notts Co in the cup. The pitch was like a sludgy beach and we were struggling to pass the ball. Silva came on and was pin point accurate straight off. I remember thinking we might have signed a good one.
 
There are the three long-time historical legends who have to be up there:
Peter Doherty, Bert Trautmann and Colin Bell

There are the big three hitters of modern times who hit heights that nobody else ever has:
Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Agüero and Yaya Touré

And then there is a group just below these names who also must be mentioned:
David Silva, Rodri, Kompany, Gündoğan, Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho


At the top of them all though, are my top two:

Kevin de Bruyne. I think his recent years of injuries have made many forget just how good he is.



Not forgetting his winning goal against Paris to put us in our first ever Champions League semifinals, his away goal at Chelsea when they were champions in the midst of our record winning run in 2017-18, his return from injury at home to Chelsea a few years ago, his dismantling of Wolves away on our run to the title in 2021-22, his performances and goals against Arsenal 1-3 and 4-0 to help us to the title in 2022-23, huge performances against United and Liverpool so many times over the years.



There’s a space just near Kompany’s statue where I think King Kevin’s statue will go.


And Sergio Agüero.



He scored so many big and important goals. Did it against everyone. He was United’s nemesis. He scored in the biggest games like the greatest ever PL game I’ve seen between City and Liverpool on the night we got back in the title race in 2018-19. The four sublime finishes against Leicester in 2017-18, the five he got against Newcastle in 2015. He was proper tough, a great competitor, people forget how fast he was, his finishing is pure ‘Jimmy Greaves’ level, always used to find that spot just inside the post like a postage stamp… and he was the king of thunderbastards, and he was a great dribbler.



Again, recent years of goalscoring from Haaland have made many forget just how good Kun was.
