Our growing international fanbase

Oh yeah, it's because they are now wearing City tops and are "part of a brilliant, growing international fanbase".

And you can save the 'outdated attitude', 'we need the money', 'who are you trying to tell what to do' replies.

I am neither trying to tell anyone what they can or can't do or interested in trying to do so. I will however, still hold the same personal opinion on the childishness of the motives of people attaching themselves to a successful football club that has absolutely nothing to do with them, regardless of what shirt they are wearing. (And I don't include tourists in that as any genuine football fan would want to go and see all the top class football available to them when visiting somewhere else, that's a totally different matter)

What an idiotic moronic and stupid attitude
one thing ...could this post be summed up in one word???!

Don't assume that all "asian" or "Chinese" looking people are from overseas.

My family have been in the UK since 1948 - I was 2 years old then. We have lived in the UK ever since, are all British citizens, and speak English as our first language. Yet if I ever came to the Etihad, I've no doubt that some of those on this forum would be annoyed because, unless I have drastic facial surgery, I will continue to look Chinese, and hence be castigated as a "tourist" - although I suspect that my knowledge of this country, its history and its culture, and even of Man.City's history, might actually be better than that of many of those I would upset by my polluting presence in the stadium.

Incidentally I don't claim to be a City "fan", only a sympathiser, who supported you against richer clubs when you were underdogs, but am now interested and excited by the prospect of an EPL club being potentially able to challenge the likes of Barcelona and Real in both skilfulness of football and results.

Come to a game then Frank, I'll buy ya a beer at City Square, and look at it from the inside rather than the outside.

I guarantee you will come back again fella!
Many thanks for your kind reply. I realise that a great many City fans will be like you in this, rather than like the small xenophobic, some even racist, minority which will be found in the fanbases of most large football clubs.

I'd love to come to the CoMS/Etihad one day - however as an OAP in not the best of health, living in London, that might be an unfulfilled wish.

Hope you enjoy all the games from your home then Frank, nice little eye opener for a few there

I've been walking around st Louis Senegal, in my city polo shirt and get a few comments from people, they usually shout 'MANCHESTER CITYYYY' at me, but in a good way. I've also seen some fake city shirts kicking about. Too many rags, aeaenal, chelsea and Liverpool shirts here

Walking around the theme parks in Florida, I got stopped twice by Americans to congratulate us on our FA Cup win, one time I had my old dark blue away top on and once I had a City polo shirt on. I was amazed they even knew about the FA Cup and that they recognised the badge. The word is spreading :)

Shared a cabbie from the city centre on Saturday, with two spanish americans.
They seemed a bit lost, so I helped them out.
They were well excited and it was their first european game ever. They had been to Citys games on the preseason tour over there.
They did the full touristthing with cameras flashing away as we approached the ground.
But they were genuinly over the moon the be here.
The questions were ok, like about the atmosphere in the ground and wheter there would be trouble with the barcodes and such. Not that cringy at all, like normal new "fans", if u ask me.

Someone in a Russian national team tracksuit top (I think, it had "Russia" written on the back and was the right colours) sat in the front row of 102 who isn't normally there. Presumably Russian, he had that familiar look of a Russian to me. He was very quiet but enjoying himself and seemed happy when we scored.

We get more tourists on Champions League nights it seems to me but no one should complain about that as long as we aren't selling it out with our normal fans - said tourists would struggle for tickets if we were.

I imagine a lot of casual visitors are up in level 3 where the general sale is usually quite restricted to?
Sounds like he might be russian.

that's the trouble with the international visitors - they're always rushin' off early to get to the airport. Anyone of a particularly eastern bloc appearance should be escorted out of the ground immediately....or any bloke from stalybridge wearing a "russia" tracksuit for that matter.....

Frank - pick yourself a suitable game in the New Year and I'll drive you there and back door to door.

In fairness, this idiot has been completely baffled by the second response, so you might be right.

As for the first response, I'll pass on taking a lecture on intellectual credibility from someone obviously still enthralled by colouring books though.

Thanks for the detailed critique though, Einstein.
