City's Academy team kicked off their Barclays Premier League season in superb fashion with a 5-2 victory over Arsenal.
Striker Harry Bunn fired a hat-trick as the Boy Blues stormed into a 5-0 lead over the Gunners - Emerick Hippias and Alex Henshall also scored before Arsenal were allowed to pull a couple back late on.

Academy manager Mark Allen said: "It was a pleasing performance and a fine start to what will be a long season. All the hard work that the players put in on their pre-season tour to Berlin paid off.

"We played some great football at times, the team spirit was clear and their creative play was complemented by plenty of endeavour. We'll kick on from here without getting carried away."

Henshall, Courtney Meppen-Walters and Ellis Plummer celebrate the win by joining up with England Under-17s.

Devante Cole scored for City's Under-16s as they were held 1-1 by their Arsenal counterparts.
they must of gone directly from platt lane,as one of them came out of the changing rooms with an england tracksuit on.

I went down to watch and City looked very strong. Arsenal's two goals flattered them, they were poor. Although an Arsenal fan near me said it was the worst performance he had ever witnessed from their U18s.

Bunn looked clinical and Henshall very pacey and tricky. Both could make it. But the player who stood out most for me was Joan Roman who played attacking mid, his touch and technique were superb and nobody could get the ball off him. His vision to set up the second goal really was class.

Good this is another point I can use for all the tossers who think we have no youth system apparently...

I saw the second half of the under 18 game+the first half of the under 16 game.I agree with you about your comments on Joan Roman-last time I saw him he played out wide which didnt suit him-although the two times he got involved in the game he scored two goals of considerable technical ability.Last year Ahmed Benali was very much the attacking midfield player.

Devante didnt have a great first half against Arsenal but he seems to score on a regular basis.A natural goalscorer who needs a bit of work on his all round game. Some good lads in the under 16 side.
