But in another thread you say that Talksport is... "made by morons for morons"... so why do you take their views so seriously?

I was only listening in the car on Sunday after the game to se if there was any commentary on the Chelsea game. Dogginmore was doing my head in with the shite he was spouting.

But there's two issues here. Yes it's "white van man" radio (and I don't listen) but it is also a national station and anything suggesting that a player deliberately set out to injure another is legally actionable. "Fair comment" is not a defence in this circumstance imho.

But the buck lies with City. It's up to them to grow some balls and respond to the fake and hypocritical outrage surrounding us at the moment.

Two weeks ago Gerard wilfully elbowed a Sunderland player in the face... barely a mention on any of the media... Liverpool's worst crisis in their history, and Talksport devote three days to De Jong's tackle (oo-er missus!).

But it's okay for us all to bleat on here... but the club needs to take a more proactive approach otherwise what the fuck are we paying all these media guru's at the club for?

I still say we need an axeman in charge of our press and media relations, a rotweiller rather than a pussy...

The fact that when it happened there was not a whiff of protest from the Newcastle players, or the crowd for that matter speaks volumes. I was at the other end of the stadium and it looked like it was a hard but fair challenge, which is how the referee saw it.

It isall rather depressing how City are seen as being fair game for any "c" rate pundit who wants to be noticed.

I guess it would be hard to prove defamation of character as people are only expressing a POV which they are entitled to do.

Having heard some of the wild accusations aimed towards De Jong in last 48 hours, I now ask for counsel from learned legal beagles.

Adrian Durham, Stan Collymore and Mickey Quinn have all accused Nige of purposely aiming 'to do' Ben Arfa with intent.

Former referee Graham Poll in Daily Mail column today has also pointed the finger and attempted to add further doubts on De Jong.

I believe this to be defamation of character, and should be pursued.

A germ or myth is being perpetuated, which will impact greatly on De Jong's ability to play the game at his required level?

Having worked on both sides (in house national newspapers legal depts) and with media law firms I find all of the stories Re: City very frustrating, but silly as it sounds any defamation issues are usually quelled under fair comment or (perhaps more worryingly) truth.

The mere threat of legal action would do the trick, the station is owned by UTV Radio stations, they are a largish company but Radio is not a very profitable buisiness.

I have been reading the different topics on here since the city win against the chavs. Now this de jong situation has arrived and I think its a suitable time to comment on it (hope you accept a gooner). Its ludicrous the way everyone is treating De jong, he has done nothing wrong except for winning the ball is that an offence, no!

Theres no consistency with these leg breakers, shawcross petty 3 match ban with an england call up the next day, Taylor petty 3 match ban. De Jong wins the ball no studs showing and all this media frenzy surrounding him. You can get all the lawyers etc you want, the media influences decisions and they do have it in for city. But they have increased their hatred (might be a bit too strong a word) towards city since the introduction of Sheikh Mansour and his cash. They would hate for city to get into the top four or to win the league. De jong is being used as a scapegoat to pull city down a level. It's a bit like bullying until you stand up they will carry on trampling all over you. Similarly, what Barcelona did surrounding the cesc saga, they trampled all over us until we said hes not for sale and then they kept schtum!
