I am a big Mancini fan but on this issue I think he has shown that he isn't perfect. Injuries happen to everyone, and our only problem really is that the first XI (19 really) is so good that players outside of that group are definitely a few clear levels below that standard. And those who may be close (Boyata, who he played in CCSEMI 2 years ago, , Scapuzzi) are too good to stay as back-up for possible scenarios like this.
My main problem with Mancini on this is that surely he is not helping those players we may now need to call upon by saying how worried he is. it will hardly fill them with confidence. Whereas just getting on with it and giving them a chance and building them up to take on the job can be career changing moments for these kids (some of whom aren't that young anymore).
WE LOVE YOU MANCINI BUT ITS NO EXCUSE THAT WE HAVE PLAYERS OUT, other teams cope).
