Our teams weaknesses

If I could improve ONE thing, it would be our corners, we are never so vulnerable defensively as when we win a corner (and today we did mostly OK), but we far too often pass it to the first defender, who then puts the opposition on the attack. Does my head in, and has since well, hughes, sven, pearce, keegan, royle........
I hate our long corners. I talk about it every five or ten minutes of almost every game. Our big men from the back come forward leaving us exposed at the back when I'm sure we'd be just as effective or more so taking short corners and smashing it across the face of goal. Silva, Nasri, Johno, Milner are all players who can do short corners well. It seems like the most logical change we could make.

not going to read any of the posts....I'll just give you an answer

you don't have any...it's a bit of a group bad patch that went on for a while but you're comming out of it...a bit of injuries, suspensions, players going away on international duty...

my only concern is that your strenghts or the assests in the team are not fully/or propperly used

I know generally we are a terrific outfit. And I know come a bit of warmer weather and some key players back, we will get back to our flowing best. But where could we improve on the park in a ideal world? This would be my points for improvement would be
1. A player with total electric pace
2. A class back to goal forward
3. Better tackling in the middle of the park
4. Not being so vulnerable from the ball out of the opposition defence (the ball always goes to their player)
5. A truly top passer coming out of defence.
ok i will bite................
1. sergio is the man , but i know what you mean
2. thats dzekos job
3. none existant today...how much do we miss yaya
4. goes back to the space in midfield.
5. silva and barry are very capeable of that job

I dont agree with those saying lack of pace. We keep possession better than anybody else out there, we make the Ball do the work.

Corners wtf ? - we score from a corner in practically every game.

Biggest weaknesses for me are that our Crossing in open play is generally weak and we dont Shoot enough from outside and the edge of the Penalty area.

An ideal world:

Hart starts passing the ball from the back a la Valdes, Casillas, Reina.

We have a centre back who is more comfortable on the ball next to Kompany, and isn't as rigid as Lescott in that he's prepared to take it forward when the opposition haven't yet shuffled across to the side of the pitch where the centre back has the ball. I do like Lescott though and had a lot of faith in him when plenty wanted to get rid of him.

Clichy making runs to get in down the wing similar to what Richards does.

Yaya is prepared to get back behind the ball more when we've not got it and gets rid of his rare horror show performances like against Bayern Munich and Chelsea away.

We get in a world class right/left midfielder who can come inside but not to the extent that Dave does when he's playing on the other side of midfield. This would complement the work that Dave does, but would not leave us with only one man in Aguero (because I'd like us to play 5 in midfield against the top teams) or just two men against the lesser teams (Aguero and Dzeko) playing on the shoulder of the defender and would not make us too narrow. If we got him on the left wing, the point I made about Clichy wouldn't apply as much. Also, if Silva was shifted to the right to play with Micah then wouldn't be that far away to what Alves and Messi have got.

Oh, and De Jong to lose some weight because I think he's an automatic starter if we were to play Barcelona or Real, and I think he's a top asset to have.

I don't want this to come across spoilt either. I hate talk about players who aren't here, and I can count on one hand the times I've been in the transfer forum, so the emphasis is on 'in an ideal world'. These changes only need to be made if we're serious about competing with the Spanish teams.

bang on, iv been saying this for ages

Our disciplinary record. I'd be surprised if we arn't somewhere near the top of the cards league. Even Bobby is starting to lose it. Glad Platt did the post match interview last thing we want is bobby saying something contraversial.

what does possession have to do with pace? We do lack a bit of pace in the team, thats there for everyone to see. But there's no perfect team in this league and we are closest to be perfect. In an ideal world i would to have bale here, he's getting better and better and would be perfect here

Wow reading what some monkeys write on here, it would seem we are in relegation battle. You better start getting used to it, cause we won't be buying world class players every year any more, and you will have to start supporting some of our current lads
