I think is pretty poor and we do ourselves no favours.
This bid should of been submitted the day after the West Ham game and taken from there.
Our publicity need to be improved and this has not helped.
Milner should be away with England now being a City player and not have transfer speculation hanging over him going into the WC.

Very true, not fair on the lad, he's trying his best to impress Capello and we're fucking with his head

Milner will be going to the WC, he will also be aware of our interest and probably even the fact we were going to bid. May as well get this out of the way now before the WC and then get his head settled for England rather than spend the tournament wondering what needs sorting out after it.

I don't agree. Milner is a big boy and should be able to cope with work issues such as choosing whether to change job or not while continuing to work professionally at the standard required. That's what ordinary people do all the time so why is Milner different?

Im totally unaware, so im asking...did WE release the fact we'd bid?

Remember the whole Lescott saga where we had "no class", yet it was Gollum who informed the press we were bidding.

I was under the impression we prefer to keep things quiet.....and surely we wouldnt have bid if we didnt know there was some interest from Milners "people"

Milner is big enough to deal with this.

It's also prior to a World Cup and not during it which would have been a bit different.

For us to have made a bid we must have been encouraged to do so, remember Cook as got links with Villa and is a friend of Lerner.

If the RAGS want a bidding war they are going to make one big mistake.

We will bid for any RAG target just to pump up the price if they want to test are owners patience.

The only one moaning about the 'timing' of this is you Geordie and that doesn't really 'improve our publicity' either.

Why have a go at City?..... just like Everton, it is Villa who have brought this out into the open, not City. If anyone is messing with his head, then it is Villa and The Press...... isn't it The Press who were linking him with a move to United?..... it will all be on TalkShite today how bad City are for making a bid for a Player in the England Squad before the World Cup..... it is all Bollocks!!!!

It was exactly the same with Lescott his head went the minute transfer dealings started.

The World Cup doesn't start for another 3 weeks, I think everyone's a little bit sensitive these days!!

Anyway, the Rags are supposedly also interested now, and no-one would accuse them of trying to de-rail England.

Sorry I don't agree, our timing is impeccable for the benefit of MCFC, England and Milner are likely to want this wrapped up in double quick time.

I think the timing is very shrewd, and is likely to have been pre-planned by our administrators. Most of us probably have split loyalties between our club and national side (myself included) but purely for the gain of our great club, the hierarchy have acted in the best interests, they only care for our development, and lets face it Milner, Cappello and the England team are long enough in the tooth and professional enough to cope.

If we left it til after the World Cup, we'll just get accused of harrassing and messing up pre-season training for other clubs prior to the league starting

This isn't an issue, surely? We only have the duration of the window to buy players, that is effectively shortened by a month due to the world cup. Are we seriously expected to cut it even shorter just because England are in training?

Not really bothered about what disruption it may cause England...

However, as others have said, I'd be loathed to see a repeat of the Lescott/Terry sagas of last summer. Whatever happens, if there's no agreement by next week, we should move on to other targets...

Yes. I am sure we waited until yesterday to announce we have made a bid.

Or the bid was already on the table and someone chose to release it yesterday thus allowing people to have a pop.

You decide.

If you want your players in before the world cup - which, correct me if i'm wrong - Mancini is on record as saying, we have to go in now.
it was unrealistic to expect a bid immediately after west ham when the manager's future was probably still in the balance, and he was yet to have his meeting with the head honcho in abu dabi.

Next time, try posting something positive about city instead will ya? Ta. this type of post just feeds the 'radio idiot' fires.

As for milner - personally, i'm not that impressed. he may be better than some of what we have, but, he's he gonna take us up a step? not so sure. wasn't that impressed with him at the villa game.
