Just one other note. We are very reliant on Ireland and with Elano unlikely to compete with him I'm not sure what we do. we could get Kaka but then Ireland has to make way probably and Kaka won't put in the slog Ireland will (so we defeat the purpose). Maybe there's an unknown upcoming gem who we can pickup as I can't think of anyone who could do the pivotal role Ireland does AND be willing to sit on the bench waiting for an opportuniy.

Alonso all the way, his passing range would dramatically change our chances away from home. He can pinpoint the passes for counter attacks.

Didn't he sign a four/five year contract with them after we nearly signed him in January? Also Zola rates him highly. I do rate Parker but considering the other defensive midfielders that are potentially available this summer, I think it's his loss rather than ours.

Yep, if Barry goes to Liverpool I could see us having an outside chance of getting Alonso though, I'm sure I'v read somewhere that he's very settled in the north-west. But you're right it's not something I'd bank on.

Hangeland/Lescott/Luisao I'd be happy with any two of those three and they are all very achievable.

Can't see Kaka coming in a million years, if he does leave Milan it'll be to Real. Need to be at least champions league regulars and maybe have a domestic competition or two under our belts too before we can comptete in this league.
