Outgoings & Strategy

It actually is that simple. Can talk tactics all we want but stop signing great players you eventually stop being a great team
It’s often debatable who is an elite player though. El Mago, Rodri, Kompany, de Bruyne all either came with questions or took time to find their level. To buy Isak Liverpool will be breaking the British record but he only has an elite scoring record at one club, so there’s an element of a gamble (although joining a winning team helps).

I just don’t think we can judge our new players yet, when we’re rebuilding from the ground up.

Well, Aguero looked pretty close to being from his debut. Silva everyone knew about but he needed a bit of time to adapt, probably like Wirtz now. Kompany, yes went on to become a beast but was only not already at a top club a few years earlier because of terrible injuries. Rodri i grant you. However, Rodri was signed to replace a great player in Dinho when it was needed. Contrast that to the signings now. We had a great right back who should have been replaced after the treble. 2 years on we watched him predictably become a shadow of himself once his pace went. We’ve inexplicably gone from having the best right back in the league to not having a right back at the club.

Whoever is signing these players must just watch youtube highlights. You’ve got Marmoush, whose first touch is terrible. Doku, who has undoubted potential but seems to be getting worse after 2 years of coaching. Nico, brought into a midfield with no legs who is about as quick as Bernado. The list goes on and on. Not saying we’d have got him but 80m for Livramento was seen as too expensive for a 22 year old homegrown right back who’s actually very good. Whilst instead we’ve spent the likes of 50m on a Wolves midfielder who the manager thinks hasn’t got the brains to play in midfield so is stuck at right back where he can’t play either!

I do see your point but I think it's worth noting no other club has bought an Aguero-comparable either, Haaland is the closest, no one has bought a Silva comparable in the PL maybe Wirtz or Cherki might turn out to be that guy. For a Kompany comparable you're looking at probably Dias or Saliba and the new Walker would seem to be Livramento who Newcastle just won't sell us yet. Who's the next Rodri? Probably Nico G or Wharton?

We're buying younger and less proven, I don't disagree but I wouldn't say we're "missing out" on huge world class players that'd improve the team much either.

I'd argue footballers are being brought into the biggest clubs much earlier and need more time to grow, across all of football.

We're in a transition phase.

We've got about 10-15 high potential players under 25, thats pretty good squad building.

Probably one place where it's gone a bit pear-shaped is pep has held on to his favourites too long and weve not replaced them ahead of time.

I watched him in a shite Sweden side during the world cup and it was plain to see he was class. He’s scored goals consistently in this league playing for an inferior side. Far better actual footballer than our striker(not knocking him). This is as safe as signing as they can be.

So it should be for the money they’re paying. Us on the other hand keep spending absolute fortunes when it’s all added up on actual gambles.

Wanted to leave……

If we have another poor season what if half our team say they want to leave….

I always thought this is mad! We have to stand by players who we want to leave find them clubs to go to and they say no thanks so when a player wants out we want to keep him we should tell him no..

There are many questioning our player purchasing strategy, but they are comparing new players coming in with existing /past players who Pep/City have moulded into great players.

When KDB first came in, his signing was slated by much of the media and questioned by many blues. When Kompany first arrived, most blues had never even heard of him, the same for many other players, yet fast forward X years and they are all club legends.

Cherki, Khusanov, Marmoush, Reijnders etc all need time, but they all are very much good enough to become legends, the only question mark is, do Pep/City still have the ability to mould them into great players, that's the worrying part for me...

I bet not one person can provide a post on here saying that they were gutted that let Cole Palmer go for £42m at the time he left, 99% of us thought it was good business! No one was arsed! Just like were not with McAtee now!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Speak for yourself!

FWIW I dont really give a fuck what we pay, its not my money. But Im a fully paid up member of the Cole Palmer fan club. The lad is an absolute diamond in my opinion and I wouldn't sell him for 150 million let alone as a makeweight

I think one of the biggest problems isnt talent. We seem to have lost our battle and desire. We roll over too easily and lack any sense of urgency at times. We need a warrior. Someone who can truly lead the team on the pitch and put a rocket up them when needed
