Over taking in thirty zone

Driving down gorton rd this morning doing thirty or maybe just above, a car over takes me. This has happened a couple of times. This makes me very angry as I feel it is dangerous to pedestrians and cars coming from side roads, because there is chance they would not expect a fast moving vehicle coming from this direction, and also if I was turn you do not expect to be over taken on a single carriage 30 mph rd.

If I was driving very slowly I could understand, I know apart from speeding it is not illegal, but am I right to be annoyed, should I follow the next person who does this and hurt them?

Flippin ell mate, you may need counselling if a car overtaking you makes you that angry you want to hurt someone, just chill out !

Once on same road someone threw a coke can out of window in front of me at lights, I went mental. I will seek help I think. Thanks

Mirror, signal, manoeuvre. What is so difficult about the "mirror" bit?

I'm a very careful driver and would never turn without checking, but there is a blind spot and just think it is unnecessarily dangerous. I ride a bike to work (in car today)and over take cars all the time so can see that there are occasions when it is ok to do such, however I would not overtake a car already travelling at the speed limit only when the traffic is moving slowly. The incident today, the driver was clearly impatient with me even though I was travelling at the speed limit and would have had to accelerate well beyond the legal speed in order to over take me. Maybe I have over reacted but think there are enough accidents already without creating completely unnecessary risk. Oh well, I'll get over it.

It's called a blind spot because you can't see it in your mirrors but you can still look at it. Also, if you really were very careful and were checking your rear-view mirror every few seconds you'd notice the car that was behind you a few seconds ago no longer was when you check it before indicating.

Next time, when they overtake and their car is parallel with yours but on the opposite side of the road.........accelerate. They will never do it again.

The worst thing in this situation is getting annoyed. It will affect your driving. The road is full of fuckin' idiots who shouldn't be anywhere near a steering wheel. Give 'em a little curse and a wish that they head for the nearest brick wall without hurting any innocent parties.

Summed up very nicely Dave !

The way I see it is like this.. Anyone who overtakes you whether speeding or not will only get to the next red traffic light before you..

Nowt better than being overtaken for you to pull up behind them at the next set of lights.

Some people do ask to overtaken .....

five of us , including two black cabs , were following an asian chap who turned from Moseley Road onto Wilmslow Road , near Owens Park , in the early hours of last Friday ..... the guy was travelling at 15-20 mph tops ,and appeared to have absolutely no idea whatsoever that a stream of following vehicles were 'raging' at him as he neared Platt Fields Park , that was until the two black cabs honked a few times and then undertook him at speed in a bus lane on his left , and another car shot past him at the same time to his right !

And all this right in front of a speed camera too !

Not that any of it appeared to bother the asian chap one bit ..... he merely continued to chudder along at 15mph through curry mile !

Unless they get to the next lights while they are still green and you don't. And if the lights are sequenced in a particular manner they may get further ahead at each subsequent junction.
It's also possible they'll get to a motorway junction or a long dual carriageway or somewhere else where there isn't a "next set of traffic lights" in a reasonable distance.

mate I ride a bike so I am constantly checking my side mirrors even when in a car out of habit and think I am more than aware of everything around me when I drive, this car today was behind me and I noticed it before and while over took me. however I don't check my blind spot when I turn right on a normal road in an urban area, maybe im naïve but I have never noticed anyone else in turn around when turning right or left fro that matter (cyclists pose a similar danger on the inside), on the motorway / dual carriage way yes, as you expect traffic to potentially be moving faster than you. on my bike look over the shoulder when ever I turn right, it is called a life saver and is taught. are you saying you physically turn your head whenever you turn, I doubt many do, maybe I do need to rethink my driving technique though.

-- Mon Aug 12, 2013 1:26 pm --

interesting so do you often over take people in 30 zones, it is quiet unusual but I guess if you need to make sure the traffic lights don't turn red it might be worth the risk of running over a pedestrian who is looking the wrong way.

At least they didn't undertake you!

Hate that with a passion, especially on the motorways. Twats

In regards to OP. I always wonder why people are always in a rush. Like you said, it wasn't like you was doing 20 in a 30 zone. People are just too impatient.
