Overrated Places

Sometimes is hard to separate the destination from your enjoyment of it.

I've had brilliant, memorable times in shitholes and shit times in beautiful, renowned cities.

Depends on the people really, because that's what cities are actually all about. And who you meet is just luck of the draw.

Anyway, I've been to Barcelona three times and never really enjoyed it.

The people are cold because they're overrun with tourists.
The Gothic quarter is spectacular, but feels like a museum under renovation rather than a living part of a city.
I don't really like Gaudi architecture.
Was tough to find good, reasonable priced food without traveling far away from the central areas.

I'm sure next time I go I could have a brilliant experience though, with the right people and a bit of luck.

People can seem a bit rude and aloof in bigger cities because it’s like that everywhere from Stockholm to Sydney. It’s the pace of life.

I loved the south of France but not Paris. Ditto Malaga instead of Madrid.
