Oxford (a) post-match thread

What a cup tie thought we were magnificent 2nd half and very proud of the performance and frustrated aswell, if only we had got that 2nd goal then who knows what would of happened, you showed us the utmost respect, if only we had a raheem sterling. Nice touch from city laying a wreath behind the goal before the game.....top club top manager top fans hope you win it now all the best.........now for our promotion push.

Thought you were decent in the first half too, to be fair.

I thought the goals were excellent. Excellent assists by Angelino and Jesus, and as others have mentioned Harwood Bellis and Garcia played good games. They impress every single time they play.

I didn't think our general play was good but we got the job done. We also reacted very well when it went to 1-1. I am sure a lot of blues were nervous at that point.

Oxford probably deserved something out of the game they played really well. The conditions were tough and we were a bit disjointed. Bravo and the young centre halves look good.

Foden is class on the ball just needs to be more involved and be better off the ball. Glad Zin is back playing. The rest were a bit meh. Well done Raz with the goals.
Foden was good in the 1st half. Faded a bit in the 2nd. More valuable experience for him.

Thought Harwood-Bellis and Garcia were great. Was happy for Cancelo, but then he really pissed me off with the Mackie thing.
Oxford were brilliant in the second half. Proper cup tie. Bring on the original plastics for the SF.

I watched the highlights again this morning and the 3rd goal is exceptionally good play from Bernardo and Jesus. Jesus's acceleration and control and quality cross was the moment of class that took the game away from Oxford.

I like Sterling's ability to score tap-ins. This is the attribute of good strikers. If we can get Sane fit I think a Jesus, Sterling and Sane forward line could be devastating. All three have the ability to interchange. They should really be looking forward to playing and developing together.

I very much like the idea of Harwood Bellis and Garcia at the back. Foden in the middle with KDB and Bernado and those three up front. Add Zinchenko and Walker at full back and you've got another top side taking shape.

The ball doesn't go in the net by accident ;-)

I agree with almost all of this mate but not sure about the control from Gabby! He did really well to get it back under control and cross to Raz but the first bit? Labrador and balloon springs to mind!!

Relatively comfortable win albeit they were on top for 10-15 mins of the second half. That said we were so far on top in the first we should have been out of sight at half time. THB and Garcia had good games and whilst they are undoubtedly raw you can see that they will make it and both are arguably a long way already in front of Tosin. Given the number of games we have coming up it will be a question of getting through this month with no injuries and hopefully having a some bodies back to help with rotation i.e. Silva, Stones and Aguero. On to Leicester now and whilst they pretty much had their1st choice side out last night we were able to rest KDB, Ferny, Walker, Ota, Mendy, Ederson and this might give us an advantage on Saturday unless Leicester are all wearing their magic bandages again

Hard to judge with so many lightweight left footers making us look disjointed, and the overall sense that we trying to do just enough.

In fact, the only interesting part was the potential of Long, John, and Silva, all featuring at the same time.

City are blessed in that in Jesus, Mahrez, De Bruyne and Bernardo we have 4 of the technically most gifted players in the Premier League, if not beyond.

Oxford played well but that's because we only did the minimum
I don't understand why we don't use Mahrez more and it frustrates the life out of me, especially in a game like tonight where he was ghosting past his marker. Is it that we always just aim to play down the left, or that Mahrez isn't in space for the ball?

Probably because his decision making is awful. Yeah ghosted past numerous times to take a shot that wasn't on or give the ball away. The number of times he'd have Foden making a run to be completely ignored by Mahrez.

Decent run out for some of our fringe players.
Bernado form has fallen of a Cliff, seriously concerning.

Mahrez very greedy,no idea why we bought him,he is not a team player,he is a Mahrez player. Was starting to seriously piss me of continuously running in to Foden position.,so,so greedy.

He would be superb if he released the ball a second or two earlier. He must have more unsuccessful shots than any other City player!

I enjoyed it but then I was home from the game just after 10 pm.

Credit to the U's for their performance but never thought we were in danger of not progressing.

Lucky bugger. We didn’t get off the car park until gone 11. It was fucking gridlocked. I thought with the stadium being so far out of the town, the traffic would start moving quite quickly.
Apart from that, an enjoyable away day

Mahrez might be a technically gifted player, I just wish he would show it heading toward the opposition goal instead of in the opposite direction.
