Oz is a bit big..

Me and Mrs Chini drove the East (Melbourn to Cairns) and West coast, both very different. We preferred the West, the felling of space is incredible. We hired a camper van in Perth and drove inland a bit and then South to Albany. Looped round and back up the West cost to Perth and then drove North to Darwin.

We were in Oz for three months and drove well over 5000 miles without going along the top or bottom bits and very little of the interior.

Everything's a bit bigger in Oz.

How many barbecues would need to be placed end to end and side to side to cook that bad boy?

I heard a fact that there are more people living in London than the whole of Oz!!

Perth to Darwin = 4396 Klms........have to stop for lunch and the odd piss :)

Bullshit.

Britain is longer than France, Germany and Spain on that map and Ireland nearly as big as Poland.

It's all part of the conspiracy.

Australia is no bigger than the Isle of Man I heard.

You may have heard it but it wasn't a fact. On account of it not been true.

There are more Australians in Shepherds Bush than in the whole of Australia!

What I don't understand, is why we sent our convicts somewhere so pleasant. Why didn't we bust them off to the Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands, or the Orkneys or somewhere?

We should have kept the Australia as a British resort, as it ought to be.

Speaking of the difference in distances we envisage between the UK and other places....

When I first planned on coming to the States, I spoke to the football coach about exactly WHERE the University was located wrt a large city. "Just south of Chicago!"

When I arrived, it was a FOUR HOUR DRIVE to the University on a straight line 4 lane highway lined with 8 foot high corn crops!

When my parents were planning a visit, they said, "We can get a cheap flight to Vancouver in Canada, do you think we should do that?" "Sure," I said, "but you will still have about 2,400 miles to go!"

That got me thinking about which USA state is the same size as the ENTIRE UNITED KINGDOM?

states_imgmap.gif

OREGON.

Which one is the size of ENGLAND?

ALABAMA.

Here is an interesting comparo of the size of USA, UK and Oz...

tumblr_m4skbdhyuz1qbgdqxo1_400.gif

USA......3,794,000 sq mi (Ratio =100.0)
Oz........2,970,000 sq mi (Ratio = 78.3)
UK.............94,058 sq mi (Ratio = 2.5)

The overlay of the UK on America is wrong I think.

On an ordinary map Europe and especially the UK is enlarged to make it bigger than it actually is.

By land mass, we're actually about half/three quarters the size of Oregon.

Plus Alaska is actually over twice the size of Texas.
