P & O

Correct. Nothing to do with the aero engine company, just like P&O Ferries is nothing to do with P&O Cruises.

The For Sale signs went up in the 70's for overseas "investors" - if we don't take action now we will be exactly what the Tories want us to be - enriching their buddies and always in hock - I have kids and am concerned for their futures. A label is just a label - look behind any "British" label and there is no need for loyalty to its overseas owners.

Vauxhall - a great old British name - formerly American owned now French - traded internationally in 2019 and there was nothing that could be done
Ford - UK arm just about closed years ago - now just makes some engines.
Land Rover -Indian owned
Jaguar - same
ASDA - American
BA - 50% Spanish owned
Lotus - and a number of famous British car brands Chinese owns
MINI - German
Hotpoint - American and Chinese owned

There is no need to hang on to good old Blighty brand loyalty because the sticker on the bonnet/Grille/fridge door that looks familiar is just to sucker you in left there by a foreign owner

ASDA owned by Euro Garages brothers from Blackburn.

The owner of P&O Cruises, Carnival, is a dual listed company in the U.K. and US. A good chunk of the shares are owned by U.K. institutions which look after our money. So P&O Cruises is a lot more British than P&O Ferries which is wholly owned by a UAE company.
Not really sure what your point is.

Well this government and previous ones like to promote Great Britain, when in reality nearlly everyrhing in this nation is foriegn owned or controled, and lots of it sold off by them.

If we were in a situatoon where all foriegn owned businesses dowmed tools, we would be prerty fucked.

I hope P&0 Ferries employ a load of security and some "cheap" crews and never have enough bookings to be a viable business again......I'd hope there was a knock on to bookings on cruises and anything with a P&O logo becomes toxic

Me too. They were awful under Sterling but this lot are on a different level.

My point is I meet people all the time who "buy British" - even when there is a sticker on something saying "product of....wherever" - people need to educate themselves - you will get people who say they wouldn't buy a Bentley because its VW owned and they wouldn't want to give their money to Germans but would buy an RR.

A former colleague of mine is frankly not a nice character when it comes to people from the Indian sub-continent - he drives an LR Defender and a Disco and his Mrs has an I-Pace - he has decided they aren't Indian owned by Tat but that is a front for its secret English (not British note ) owner. My Uncle bought a new Corsa last month - he mocked his brother my Dad for buying "shitty French cars" - his Corsa is a re-bodied Peugeot 208.

They need to understand how integrated the world is.

You buy a stupidly expensive train ticket and that subsidises rail fares in EU countries - utter madness

That doesn’t really explain why you think people should take their business away from P&O Cruises because it shares a name and logo with a totally separate foreign owned dodgy ferry company.

Asda no longer American owned I believe the Issa brothers bought it a while ago

to warn others
Still doesn’t make any sense that a cruise line with nearly 10 huge ships should be expected to spend millions repainting its ships and changing every single item on each ship that contains P&O branding because another company has does something to tarnish the 200 year old brand. It would be cheaper and more sensible to publicly dissociate themselves from P&O Ferries which is what they have started to do.

Quite easy for them to reverse their name and still target their biggest market.

OAP Cruises coming to a port near you soon.

Just watched another faux anger performance at the Despatch Box by a Govt Minister - angry at a firm that is simply implementing employment tricks that the Govt support and refused to block.

And if you wonder why they get away with it then read this and see how intertwined DP World are with the Tory election promises

Can't beat 'taking back control' eh..

Well they had better rebrand quickly because I thought they were the same.
Would be quicker and easier for you to educate yourself rather than expect a cruise line that has had barely any income for two years because of the pandemic to spend millions on rebranding.

mass production is nothing like "the old days", components are sourced from around the globe and then assembled by robots. The car industry being a high-profile example. Ship building and steel not so much. Electronics, phones etc have components from all over; where they are combined has very little to do with performance/value but a lot to do with foreigncurrency/roi/workers' t's and c's'. " Dyson

Your in a nasty mood today, I thought it was a one off yesterday.
Clearly not.

When you have P&O ferries and you also have P&O Cruises you would tend to think they are the same company.
