paddy crerand

My favourite Crerrand story is one I read in Gary James' biography of Sir Joe Mercer.

Just after Joe and Big Mal had taken over at City, they were at some sort of ceremony (it may have been scum's end of season do.

Anyway, the bitter bastard and Mal got chatting and Crerrand bet Allison that City would never again have a 30 000 crowd. Within three matches, Malcolm had won the bet!

So he's always been a bitter, rag-loving tw@t!

Wish the press could interview this p can every day. Just reminds me why i'm a City fan.

i only read the thread title and that was enough to start me off larfing

thanks

Just been on R5 (7.50 - 8.00).

Usual ranting and raving. Beligerently asking questions and then not allowing the female interviewer to respond.

Jonny Evans was innocent and the punishment was harsh. Ditto for Rio Ferdinand.

If only he was English, we could claim his as a national treasure.

Crerand is something of an expert on the subject of spitting.

I've posted this before after the Bogbrush/Zab episode but time to dust it off again-

From a Referee's Forum.

The laws of football didn't bother with spitting until the nation was shocked in 1968, when on Match of the Day, Pat Crerand of Manchester United spat into the face of an opponent. At the end of that season, the International Football Association Board, who compile the laws of the game, hastily added an International Board Decision. This was not part of the law but an interpretation
which referees had to follow. It said 'The offence of spitting at opponents, officials or other persons shall be considered violent conduct'.

This meant that the player committing the offence would be sent off.

I particularly cringed when he had no respect for the woman presenter and proceeded to talk over her when he had asked if she had 'ever been to a game'!

And that the disciplinary panel was made of of ex players who had played for teams 'that no-one had ever heard of'! The horrible, arrogant, Rag mentality lives on and they wonder why everyone hates them!
