Palermo (A) | Post Match Thread

I think this season will be make or break for Doku, Savinho I think has higher potential he just needs to learn how to finish. A wing pairing of Savinho and Bobb is more balanced than Savinho and Doku.

I enjoyed Cherki’s performance most as he surprised me with how much ground he covered and the position he played. A sort of 8 not a 10. He has the ability to do stuff no one else in this team can with his vision and passing. Not sure if he and Rudolf can play in the same team without Rodders though

Imo, we moved the ball better and quicker in the 2nd half. First half was a bit slower and less fluent, probably due to the fact the 3 mids hadn't played together before Palermo.
I think both halves had something to appeal.
I agree about the general sense of second-half control.
I enjoyed the individualism of the first half and the growing fruits of the Cherki/Bobb/Lewis understanding. I also liked the Khus/Stones partnership. I think Khus with a footballing centre-back is the ideal, though he also showed that he is no slouch in that area.

Went to Sicily a couple of years ago. All I can say is that, it is on the to do list to go for a week. Amazing place. As soon as you get off the main street, the locals look after you. Quite similar to Dublin.
Yeah, I was surprised that the game appeared to have pretty much sold out myself, but I don't suppose it's all that often that Palermo fans get to seen a Premier League side live ... they turned up and backed their side vocally so fair play to them.

Was a good run out., and may be good enough for the first 3 games, but will have to have stepped up by the time Chelsea, Dippers and Arse come along.
No doubt ait Nouri is class going forward, but has to know his defensive responsibilities or we need a workable plan to cover this. John and Kusanov looked suprisingly good together and Gundo grabbing contol of the game, 2nd half.

Nice touch at the end with Khaldoon's nod to the Liverpool cup final suits. Respect.

A nice workout for practically every member of the squad, with plenty to build on.

Rijnders looked particularly impressive, but really should have made it a harpy-trick.

I’m looking forward to the new season.

Some positives from the display, all the new signings look great on the ball. Ait-Nori is so silky, Cherki wants to get on the ball at every opportunity, and Reijnders looks great arriving in the box.

Unfortunately the same issues as last season look like they are not going away. Palermo were the equivalent of a lower championship side and carved us open with ease at times. I might have become to used to us playing with a back 3 but with our back 2 first half especially Stones was finding himself out on the touchline following the attacker leaving just Khusanov on his own in the middle. I worry this will become the norm as both full backs play so attacking and all teams need to do is get it down the channels hold the ball up out run our midfield from deep and they are in.

I like all the new signings but none of them solve the issues we had last season which was that off the ball on transition we were a shambles.

Capacity there is 36,349, and it looked pretty full to me ..... can't find any official crowd figure as of yet, not even on their website, but I'd guess at around the 35,000 mark.
Cheers. It looked quite full to me.

I liked Khusanov, and Rico's games. I was a little worried that Khusanov had disappeared into the background but he looked very comfortable. I think we have good pace in the full back positions and Khusanov might have a very big role to play in the centre of defence. I can see now why we have loaned Reis. We do have some strength in defence now.
I am happy with that pre-season game. There is lots to look forward to. There is nothing major that concerns me, only the fitness of our players and that looks good at the moment. I watched Pep's post-match press conference and he looked genuinely happy. He said that he is getting good vibes from the behaviour of the squad at the CWC and in Manchester.

It’s a mystery to me. I don’t really understand why we find it so difficult to solve. Yes we miss Rodri but we still have 11 on the pitch. It’s not as though it’s a minor issue, it’s a big problem. Develop Khusanov as a DM?
