Thought we were decent in both halves

Loads of positives when going through individual performances but the quality of the opposition needs to be taken into account - didn’t realise they are only in Serie B !

First half

Cherki was quality , ran the game and was at the centre of all our good play

Khusanov was sharp in both his defending and passing out

Nico G was tidy enough but didn’t shine

I thought Rico was very good

Second half

Obviously Reijnders was quality and could have had four goals

Savinho was really good

Gundogan was also pretty sharp

The players that didn’t make a good impression were Akanji and Marmoush

If picking the team for next week now

Ederson

Rico stones Khusanov Ait Nouri

Nico G

Cherki Reijnders

Savinho Haaland Doku

I think Pep will favour Gundogan and Bernardo instead of Nico G and Cherki

Although Cherki could get the nod instead of Savinho

The simple answer is that the City bench next season will be our major asset to have game-changers and not bench warmers

Based on that I'd be doing

----------------------ederson-----------------------
Nunes------- dias--------khusanov--- ait-nori
--------------------------nico G-------------------------
-------------cherki---------------------------------------
_--------------------------------------reijnders----------
Bobb-------------------------------------------------------
----------------------haaland-----------------------savinho

I do t think pep will though. Bernardo will be in the side at the expense of Nico g or cherki I imagine and I think he'd start savinho on the right ahead of Bobb and start marmoush on the left. Which tbh I'm fine with as Bernardo was ok today and I like marmoush even if he was lackluster today.

But I think reindeer needs to be allowed to get forward and cherki needs to have almost a free role which means we need as close as we've got to a proper 6 behind them and that's Nico G who did well today.

I thought lots of the new players (Jan onwards) played well, John looked good, not sure we learned much about the older lads in the second half, other than they are still good footballers.

I don't envy Pep picking 18 next week though, I hope he goes with a lot of young, and a bit of experience as starters, and not the other way.

I think Pep will have 22 main players and 3 young players to make up the 25-man squad the rest will have to leave

“nobody standing out” !
Stones was perfect, Cherki ran the first half and the reindeer fella just put on a masterclass.
Not to mention Khus, Bobb and Sav.
Very early days but plenty stood out
I agree but was referring to the 2 players who played on the left and the 2 players who played in goal. You mention none of them in your list of stand outs, which lends weight to my point. They’re all good, but…

Have to take the quality of the opposition into account, but Stones and Khusanov looked better as a pair than Dias and Akanji in my view. Khusanov in particular looked very sharp.

Marmoush didn’t do much, Savinho played well but miss a great chance as per.

Reijnders looks class and shows what some pace and mobility in midfield can bring to the team.

Other than that, again it’s difficult to tell given how limited the opposition was.

Absolutely, what the game showed us is that we have a great squad with loads of depth

Very interesting season coming up , no one has a settled team with the amount of signings being made

Our difference maker is in the dugout with us having by far the best manager in the league and it’s not even close

I can see another 17/18 season where we blow the opposition away

I’d agree with most of that but thought Doku was wasteful and as usual a bit slow getting back when needed. Marmoush is still a home player for me. Doesn’t do enough in away games.

Still not sure about Nico G. Still looks a bit ponderous on the ball for me. Not sharp enough.

Thought Savinho was excellent mostly bar the miss. He has to improve his woeful finishing.

Cherki and Reijnders exciting.

Anything is possible this season,
even looking at what records are left to break this squad could do something special and relegate United again

Dias ahead of Stones?

Watching the match on my iPad at home, I struggled to hear what was going on at times because of the noise from the Oasis concert at Murrayfield, one mile away.

With Grealish apparently off and Marmoush and Ait-Nouri both absent for a key chunk of the season, then everything on that side then is going to fall on Doku. Neither Doku nor Marmoush look convincing yet, however, with the latter especially keen to drift infield to become involved. Going to be interesting to see how Guardiola gets balance out there.

City’s Jan & early summer signings look like great business when you look at some of the post Wirtz prices paid this summer.
Reijnders, Série A midfielder of the year for £46.5m, Cherki for £34m, Ait-Nouri for £31m, all 3 have impressed, but Reijnders looks very special

A lot more to like than not.

My concern surrounds Marmoush currently. He's not a winger, and we have better options out there. If Haalad is fit, he will play 9 times out of 10. I fear it's going to be tough keeping him happy, unless Pep decides to start dropping one of the attacking mids for him in Cherki/Foden, which opens another can of worms.

Yeah. I like Doku and think he was instrumental in us securing top 4 last season in the last few games. Changed the momentum of the game at Everton and then that pass for the winner against Villa was sublime.

I was a tad disappointed with that showing tonight though.

The good thing is we now have competition. You won’t play in this side if you are not performing so they will all have to improve on last years showing.

I really enjoyed that tonight but it reinforced just how difficult a task Pep and the club has trying to keep everyone happy.

Cherki and Reijnders outstanding, I really rate Khusanov and think he has the attributes to be a star with us.

Gundo and Bernie were lovely and composed, thought Sav showed real purpose and a pity he missed that chance as would’ve been good for his confidence.

The other thing I picked up on was how confident and assured Nunes looked.

Roll on next week!
