If I am correct with my assessment of what the actual point of his post was, there was nothing ageist about it.

Worth pointing out that "The FA" didn't reach this conclusion. The people who made the decision here is the 3 man panel. Robert Englehart KC, Matt Wild & Tony Agana.

The FA have said they fundamentally disagree and are considering their legal options to rectify the situaiton.

"The independent regulatory commission decided on an 18-month ban for the 12 charges which it upheld or was admitted.​

"We had requested a longer ban. Based on the evidence presented to the commission, we fundamentally disagree with the independent panel's finding that this was not a case of conscious racism. As a result, we are considering our legal options."​

Tony Agana was on the panel? Presumably this Tony Agana which makes the decision even more staggering:

Well, if you take only that one sentence, absent the context of every other word in his post, sure, that would look bad doing that.

I imagine we could select an isolated sentence from one of your posts on various topics, replace a descriptive word for a group of people with an ethnicity or religious group, and it’d look pretty bad, as well.

Context is king, and in this case—again if I am correct with my assessment of his point—he was actually pointing out a real issue with how racism is allowed to persist in our culture, not saying all older people are racist.

I’ve had many conversations about the “they are a product of their time, they don’t know better” nonsense in RL. And everyone should, as otherwise it’ll persist as an accepted way of dismissing racist behaviour.

Again, it’s not that all older people are racist, it is that many people (young and old) give older people a pass for being racist or saying racist things, which they rightly don’t for younger people (because “they know better”), which is still a big problem in society (and has been for hundreds of years). Every sound mind should know better, regardless of age.

Anyway, I’ll stop defending the post as it’ll derail the thread.
