Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

BBC Olympic coverage is truly shocking as already mentioned by others on here.

Just getting ready to watch the Mens 110m Hurdles and they switch to boxing.

They do not have enough options on their iPlayer.

The i-player is awful I can't find any coverage of the men's road race.

Jesus christ been away from my firestick for a couple of hours what the actual fuck is the BBC's coverage all about. Tommy Fleetwood going for a medal in the golf and we are watching a women's cycling race with 120km to go until the finish line.

When and why did golf become an Olympic ‘sport’!!?

The Olympic games must have been all over in one afternoon when the Greeks held it every year, but since the advent of television and soap adverts it has gone a bit Pete Tong and they will have any old shit on it so it's long winded and convoluted :)

I continue to maintain that like Baseball and Cricket, Golf is not a sport but rather a competitive leisure activity, and thus should not be in the olympics (which could apply to a fair few other events, as well).

In my opinion in order to qualify as a full fledged sport a majority of the players need to be actively participating for 70%+ of the time spent during the competitive match event; it is a competitive leisure activity when a majority of players spend 70%+ of the time during the match simply waiting for something to happen.

I know this is an addition to the base definition of “sport” but I think it should be used, as we have more and more leisure activities now being nonsensically classed as “sport” for me…
