Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

Christ! the boxing commentator is such a wind bag. Has to refer to announce every new round with "Here at the 2024 Paris Olympics". Then goes on to describe one of the boxers background, by which time the round has almost finished. He might mention a punch that was thrown, but not if it interrupts his speech making.
At least his co-commentator describes the action.

Nadal & Alcaraz out of the men's doubles. Could be Rafa's farewell to tennis.
Yeah, not looking good. He hinted he won't be at the US Open, and not sure he'll continue playing.

One things for sure, he played his heart out while out there in both singles and doubles:

“It was disappointing to not bring back a medal for Spain but that’s it,” said Nadal. “I tried my best in every single minute that I was on court, but it was not enough to achieve our goals. If that’s the last time, it’s an unforgettable feeling and emotions.”

Now that they're out, I'm hoping tomorrow's winner of Fritz/Paul (USA) v Evans/Murray (GBR) takes it all in men's doubles. I'll be happy and sad no matter the result, maybe a bit more if it's Murray's last, but hope not.

As a Chinese, there was a time when we believed that sports had nothing to do with politics. An athlete winning a gold medal is a personal matter. It cannot be said that our country is strong. We should pay attention to our own lives. Don't be proud of our country.
For many years, some of our cultural elites have been trying to instill these concepts in us.
Until we saw the attacks on our athletes by the American media.
This is the biggest cultural shock that this Olympics has brought me. Perhaps we should be proud of our athletes and our country.
We live in a new cold war era and should adapt to all the hostility.
