Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

The have just been whinging about the price of tickets, well fuck me welcome to the world of a football fan.
My son is there on Sunday evening for the swimming finals. Just four events that cost him almost £400.
  • 17:30 - 50m Freestyle (Women)
  • 17:36 - 1500m Freestyle (Men)
  • 18:06 - 4 x 100m Medley Relay (Men)
  • 18:26 - 4 x 100m Medley Relay (Women)
So almost £100 per event and less than an hours entertainment. A complete rip-off but there again not everybody gets to see Olympic events in the flesh.

For a venue that holds 17K iirc, that’s a lot of ticket money coming in. I hope your son really enjoys it, but personally I wouldn’t pay that, even for a night of athletics finals.

We've got to be looking at winning the men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay tomorrow.

Defo mate, we're stacked in the 200m freestyle. Richards' time from the UK Aquatic Championships would have won him gold last night, Scott would have won bronze and then the lads who finished 3rd and 4th would have been 5th fastest last night. I think the 100m freestyle individual heats are today as well which Richards and Scott go in so just need to make the final and then we should be in a great spot.

Yeah that was my thinking, 2 men in the top 4, I assume Tom Dean will be one of those coming in and he must be motivated.

Yeah 100m freestyle heats this morning and semifinals this evening. Hopefully they save some energy for the relay.

He has got athletics on the 3rd August, a much better set of events.
  • 19:10 - Decathalon Javelin Group A (Men)
  • 19:15 - 1500m Reperchage (Men)
  • 19:35 - Shot Put Final (Men)
  • 19:50 - 100m Semi Final (Women)
  • 20:10 - Decathalon Javelin Group B (Men)
  • 20:20 - Triple Jump Final (Women)
  • 20:55 - 4 x 400m Relay Final (Mixed)
  • 21:20 - 100m Final (Women)
  • 21:45 - Decathlon 1500m (Men)
A great night of athletics with 6 Gold medals at stake including one of the Blue Riband events in the 100m Women's final.

Think it's Whittle not Scott who is our other 100m swimmer.

2 men in the top 4 and 2 men who would have been 5th and 6th in that final based on the times, and haven't had to go through the same programme so should be primed to swim very fast. We're in very good shape.

Really hope Peaty can get a gold in one of the relays, but it's going to be tough considering he's not 2 seconds quicker than the rest anymore. That was usually the margin we needed for the others to bring it home. Should scrape medals still hopefully. Seen he's got covid but hopefully the rest and desire he has will see him deliver something big. It's a "slow" pool - no one seems to be getting close to their best times.

The BBC coverage is woeful.

Why are there only two feeds online? you can watch Rowing or Judo, but then swimming is now on and i'm sure multiple other sports taking place.

Why can they not have more streaming options online?

(I am now using Eurosport to watch swimming)

How the fuck did British rowing manage to piss off Jurgen Grobler? The best coach I reckon in British Olympic history, we fucked him off before the last olympics seemingly not a single gold?

Too busy covering the fucking rags on meaningless pre season tours

Not fully 100% sure on this but I had a similar complaint yesterday so I looked it up. Seems the broadcasting regulations have changed the BBC now don't have full control over what they can and can't show. Think it's related to the tweets below. Seems Discovery+ own the rights now.

I watched a couple of heats yesterday, I think we look nailed on for a minimum of couple of golds in the rowing.

It's really pissing me off. It keeps switching between sports rather than follow a whole session. I want to watch the whole swimming sessions live, not just dropping in for a Brit then switching to someone windsurfing. They don't have the rights clearly, so it's all over the place which is disappointing.

My sister and her family are going over for a few days of the Athletics, they have tickets for the women's 800m final, they will hopefully be cheering Keely for Gold, and Phoebe and Jemma onto the podium.

My current pet hate is the star build up to a particular event - take Peaty as an example (not his fault btw). They do a piece on the back story which I’m sure most know anyway. Just show the live sport and then dissect it when it’s all done ffs!
