Paris 2024 Olympics Thread - 11th August (pg 430)

Phenomenal race, Kipyegon a sporting great.

Brilliant from the British girls, that was so so fast, Bell gets the bronze, national record as well?

Going to be a lot of British middle distance runners wanting to be in the Hodgkinson-Bell training group.

What on earth happened to Laura Muir in the first two laps? Brilliant by Kipyegon as usual, and well done Georgia Bell - she looked finished coming into the straight but the woman ahead of her was even more shattered.

Georgia bell did great there, not sure what muirs game was

Ran a personal best, presumably thought the start was ridiculous, which it was. Hull and Kipyegon have been in that form all season though, shocked Bell managed to stay with it.

Halfway down that home straight, a medal looked beyond her. She took 14 seconds off her PB.

That Georgia Bell story is brilliant coming back to the sport in Covid, running a national record and getting an Olympic medal, ridiculous.

Thank God for the Fosbury Flop.
Without it, they'd be still straddling and there would be a fair few men semi castrated in tonight's High jump. Unbelievable jumping.

Ironically Fosbury's name is Dick

Start was just too fast for her and threw her.
Yes probably - when I typed that I hadn't realised it was a PB. So maybe she actually ran what seemed the sensible race, with more consistent splits that everyone else - the trouble is it left her out of contention. I suspect she regrets not going with the early pace and at least giving herself a chance in the last 200.

Kerr and McEwen having a jump off in the high jump, brilliant.

I wasn't a fan of Tamberi and Barshim getting to split it in Tokyo, there shouldn't be 2 Olympic champions.

I fully agree there shouldn't be 2 Gold medallists, but I think as there is you've got to be a bit of a knob to say no we're not sharing and deny another athlete or yourself a gold. I hope McEwan wins now.
