Passing back to the keeper???

Yeh, we've just won 4-1, some good attacking play, but i think there were a few bad points from todays game.

The number of times we kept passing it back to the keeper. We were 3-0 up and cruising, the defence passing it about to each other, andpassing it back to the keeper. Its poor play IMO and cost us a goal that should never have come.

They did the same against wolves. When we've got the ball, we want to be moving forward, and not giving them a chance to pressure us and put Given under pressure.

I agree, what is the point in keeping hold of the ball, controlling the game and keeping the opposistion chasing the ball around the pitch when we can just hoof it 50/60 yards straight to them.

Much better dont you think?

If we are going to play this way, as soon as the ball is passed back to Given the full backs should drop back to reeive the ball giving him options right and left to avoid any onrushing forwards, rather than the big punt upfield into no mans land. Just a small point and one, no doubt, Bobby Manc will be working on. It won't happen over night, the signs are good.

This is a quality aspect that Mancini has brought to our game imo. When we have the ball it is better to retain it rather than give it away. Numerous times ealier in the season we just lumped it forward hoping for it to stick and it hardly ever did. We are much more potent with the ball at our feet hence the 4 wins in 4. It is also a good ploy to have as it draws teams further up the ptich leaving space for Bellers, Tevez and Petrov to exploit. Im all for paaing it back to the keeper and retaining possession.

this

i love the way we are drawing teams in to our half which opens up space behind them.

Three things if we are going to do this:

1) The goalkeeper needs to be comfortable on the ball - Shay nevers appears to be. I love him, but this and his domination of his 6 yard box and his weaknesses imo (and we all have to have some wekanesses).
2) Players then have to move and show for the player on the ball - the keeper. I do not think we are great at doing this. I am sure it will come.
3) The execution of tyhe pass needs to be good. I watch Shay warm up and he strikes the ball really cleanly. I then see him in a game and he doesn't. I am sure Bobby M will sort this.

Spain, Barcelona do it. It's what you do when you keep possesion and control the game.

It deflates the opposition and allows our players time to compose themselves..

Nowt wrong with it..
