What constitutes general wear and tear in a passport. My current one has a curly corner on the bottom right (opposite side to the picture) of the laminate on the photo page. It lifts up roughly about 1cm. It's a bio mechanic passport so it has the chip.

I'm needing it to go on holiday in 5 weeks to Corfu. I've only just noticed the slight damage. I can apply for a replacement but that will take 3-6 weeks which might not be good enough, or i can fast track the application but that involves me attending an interview in Liverpool, which would be a massive ball ache since i don't drive and i live nowhere near Liverpool.

Anybody had any experience of this?. I'm flying with Thomson, if that helps. I would imagine it would be fine. The photo is nowhere near the damaged part and it's quite clearly not been tampered with. What are my chances of getting a complete jobsworth at the airport refusing me? I'm travelling with one other person so if this was to happen, his holiday would essentially be ruined as well.

Cheers for any advice. I think it will be fine but i don't know :/

Mrs Death washed her sons passport instead of looking in his jeans for it ;-) silly woman, the photo is badly faded to the point where you can hardly make it out, he has however been to Amsterdam and is currently in Sweden, used it without any hassle whatsoever, even the backing has peeled off in some areas. You will be totally fine mate, way too late to do anything about it now anyway.

On the flip side a lad I know( flying to Amsterdam) didn't get through check in because his passport was faded and wouldn't scan.

Agreed, I think that is the key, if it scans you are ok and mrs death's son's obviously did, much to my amazement I have to say as I was on standby to bring him back from the airport on both occasions.

Don't risk it mate, my mate got told to go home at East Midlands going to ibiza a few weeks ago. His picture had faded due to water damage, but it still looked like him. It also had the chip in the passport but still had no luck.

I actually think the fact that he'd recently grown a shoebomber beard didn't go in his favour either.

ha ha I'm sure that was a small factor in excluding him, its probably down to the person who is checking you in by the sound of it, pot luck..! I bet Mrs Deaths son gets stopped coming back into the country in a few weeks time, then I can say I told you so..!

My old passport had been washed countless times, I use to keep it on me for id and it would be full of cement dust, brick dust a the end of the day.the photo was really dirty and the plastic was peeled away.Being a smart arse I tried to clean it up with some nail varnish remover and it nearly made my face disappear. On the way back to Spain I was stopped at Manchester and the security saidafter about 10 mins of speaking to a member of staff, that they would let me carry on my journey, but Spanish authorities may stop me from returning.I said it doesnt bother me pal as I live in Spain.

I have totally bottled it and booked an appointment at the passport office in Liverpool for a fast track passport. I've managed to get it on a day when I am actually working in Liverpool so it works out ok. I'd have to replace it next year anyway so for peace of mind I might aswell just do it now. Cheers for all the help and responses
