Passport needed entry RM away?

Well, I'm a bit gobsmacked! That's the first I've heard of that. I wonder on what grounds, exactly? Are Spanish supporters required to show their passports at the Etihad?
What earthly reason can there be for requiring people to show their passports to get into a football stadium?
You're supposed to carry your national ID card with you at all times in Spain, and you have to include the ID number on all football tickets (at least for all the games I've been to) and festival tickets. They're less strict with home fans, but given the lack of away culture they can be a touch stricter for bigger European games.

Since Brexit many things have tightened up in Spain
.
As a Spanish resident I have a Police issued identity caed that contains my address, photograph and fingerprints°

If driving I carry my Spanish issued driving licence because spot checks happen regularly and they only want this, they already know if I am insured just want to check if my driving licence fits.

Simply put if I cannot produce these I must be a visitor so passport needed and proof of where I am staying and for how long with means of support for that period needed.
Failure to comply risks deportation.

In short have your passport ready irrespective of whether needed for passport control.

I know I'D cards are taboo in UK but please be aware it is normal practice in Spain so please politely comply if stopped you are not being picked on as rival fans to RM.

My brother has lived in Spain for more than twenty years. My parents are buried there, and spent the last fifteen years of their lives there. I'm certain that they did not, and do not, carry their passports around with them. In many European countries — including France — the rule you've specified exists on paper, and it is followed more in the breach than in the observance.

By the way, I agree that anyone from the UK attending the match should not take any risks, and should have their passport on them. I am not inciting people not to.

Beat these cunts. They fucking despise us and England. I am no patriot but always Barcelona before these.

My sister-in-law lives out there and does carry round a government ID card rather than her passport, it's just in the UK our passport is usually the only thing we have that works. But yeah I don't carry my passport when visiting, but if I was stopped by the police and failed to show it then they could keep me until someone brought it to the station if they were so inclined.

But every festival and football game I go to there demands I put my ID number on.
