I think patriotism has overcome nationalism

how good is that for all of us in our country.

We have cheered home Mo, Jess, Greg, Brad and others as we should as proud Brits and im proud of that.

That silly **** BNP leader Nick Bollocks is tweeting that the left in british politics are abusing foriegn countries by making people run for us...Mo didnt give that impression did he, he ran for us, all of the UK

A triumph of patriotism over nationalism

The Olympics which i was sceptical about has done more than i can ever imagine for our fantastic multicultural island

I know sport and politics are closely linked but after the past fortnight I'm just fucking loving the sports to be honest.

Patriotism must be at its highest for many a year. I was a cynic in the build up but it has been absolutely stupendous, to quote Martin Tyler.

I always view patriotism with a great deal of suspicion. Nothing against the Olympics though or other international sporting competition. I think sport does far more good for world unity than division. People from many countries coming together and enjoying themselves. It's good shit.

The Olympics is a dreadful waste of time and money imo , I haven't watched a single minute of it, if being patriotic means loving your birth country then I'm in but I'm not sure why anymore tbh.

Patriotism and nationalsim are different though

I think the likes of Mo and Usain are now world greats and transcend there sports, but as a nation we love to see our own win.

I do think the olympics have been a triumph for us, and we can allow ourselves to bask in that for a short while.

I don't believe for one second you didn't watch the dancing horses.

Been a brilliant few weeks. Patriotism in it's true light. For years we've allowed it to be high jacked by the far right.
The Olympics though has given us a real sense of true pride back. Let's hope it isn't just a flash in the pan that will be forgotten in a month. We have some great role models in our athletes. Mo Farah's attitude will hopefully open a few peoples eyes. I believe he even slapped (not physically) down an African journo who suggested it would have been sweeter representing Somalia.
And I believe it has shown us in our true majority light. We've been cheering athletes of other nations and showing respect. Something that foreign journalists have picked up on.

Something this government should really pick up on. Sport has brought us together. And a huge investment would be beneficial not only in national pride but in national health and attitude. Could even start a revival of fortune.
Sadly they won't.

So after years and years of the left wing liberal elites telling us that to be patriotic was a bad thing (as well as to be competitive) they have now done an about turn and tell us it's now OK, as bad as the far right for jumping on the band wagon.

I have always been proud of being British and English (Jewish decent) and the values that this country has held, no we are not perfect and there are some episodes in our history that are not to good (name one country that has not) for a small island nation we have done very well indeed and we should all be justifiably patriotic, although I do prefer the understated way we do it

Why sceptical usually about patriotism?
