Paul Gascoigne

I'm sure part of his demons and addictions had something to do with his best mate getting killed right in front of him when they was 10 years old.
Not saying that is what caused his spiral into his drink and drug taking but it's something that has obviously stuck with him all his life.
I really do think that we ,as footy fans ,should take into consideration facts like this when judging Gazza.

I never met the bloke off the pitch ,but all I can say is that he was one of the most skilful footballers I've ever seen play the game. I'm City ,but if Paul Gascgoine was playing football I'd be watching. He was brilliant, utterly brilliant.a real entertainer.

I've read books about Len Shackleton, old Geordie clown prince, entertainer
That's what you want ,as a fan, to be entertained. Who wanted to see Arsenal deploy their offside trap for a whole decade? Who wanted to see Wimbledon FC lump long balls forward and beat up the oppenent ?

Id always prefer to see skilful players. And back in the day many so called playmakers were actually weak fair weather players ,play up at home in front of big support but away from home they hid,or didn't fancy it.

Not Gazza, he was a tough man ,could take a tackle and used to show off at many an away ground.
Maine Road was a tough old ground in its day and Gazza read that, and took the piss because the stage was big enough for him. He thrived on the abuse from the Kippax, shows, imo,a strong mentality
How folk can find the time to say something negative about him I don't know- Gazza was a fantastic footballer.imo

Didn't we swap to the home kit second half, tbh your probably right,I can't remember,it was 35 years ago.
We played Spurs twice at home and played in the away kit and won both games 2-1.
First time was 85/86 and Spurs’ white was very close to our very sky blue. Ref halted the game after 3 or 5 mins and asked Spurs to change but was told they hadn’t got their away kit. City were ordered off and came back on with red n black stripes.
The 2nd time was I think 90/91 and with a bit of fog and the game being live on Scandinavian TV, City came out at the start in maroon.

I can find the time to say negative things about him as he's a proven woman beater which imo puts him right up there as one of the biggest cowards on the planet , regardless of him playing the clown in front of 40,000 people who in reality could never get anywhere near him
