When you hear of players that "would" have been world beaters, the best they ever seen, why does no-one ever mention Paul Lake? Gazza, Duncan Edwards, Lentini etc.

When I watched him in the youth team, he was an absolute gift to football - a sublime player and I do believe if it wasn't for injuries he would have been as good as if not better than those mentioned and risen to the very top. It was as shame.

I was just thinking of him the other day, strange how things pop into your head.

for me he was on the same level as colin bell LEGEND

i will never for get lakey

You see that is such a bold statement but doesnt seem stupid when aligning it with Paul Lake.

He never gets the soundbites that others get. They say Edwards would h ave captained England for 15 years, well Lake was on his level I believe so imagine how the lad feels knowing his talent was never fulfilled.

sometimes in football they do use the word LEGEND a bit to easy

but lakey will always be in that league for me
he had everything and would have played for england many times

the only thing is when i think about how we as a club back then
we would have sold paul lake

i dont think man city as a club would have been anywhere near
the level that paul lake needed to be a england player

Legend is a too frequently used title. Lake without doubt without the injuries would have been one of City's greatest players right up there with Bell. But unfortunately because of the injuries never fulfilled his potential.

Probably my all time Favourit City player ! Loved the guy fuckin shame what happened as he would of been an England captain IMO

Played against him once at schoolboy level when he was at St Thomas moore high school
everyone was aware of his talent even then. I remember his athleticism more than anything,
It was great to see a local lad of my age go onto play for City.
Both his brothers were on Citys books, Michael & Dave whilst he was a 1st team regular.

Don't agree with this, we were finishing round 5th in the table when he got injured, we could have maybe pushed on further if this hadn't of happened.

I agree ,I was a bit young when he was playing but I do remember he was one of our best players and always got the loudest cheer when his name was announced.Couldn't believe it when some people on here have put him in their worst ever city 11 on that thread the other day.WTF??

Because him career ended perhaps a year before he would have got to that level of fame.

loved him when i was kid, his wife was a teacher at my school (st marys in denton) he used to come in now and then as it was his old school and give us free tickets in the umbro stand at maine road, class guy and class player!!

was a top player, easilly england regular material, remember him and gazza in his pomp having a great battle, gazza was pulling his ears at lakey, lakey calling him a fat twat right infront of the kippax,
