Paul Power interview in The Independent

Being a defense minded player myself in my younger years, its no suprise he was my childhood hero.... always thought his shorts where a bit too small tho lol

its defo a dig at the money and the new owners

you got to ask yourself are the young players paul power said in the interview was good enough for the next level of top 4 club and champions league football then the answer is NO are anybody in the youth ripping up trees NO. can city turn out ready made superstars NO. do you need money to fight the big clubs on the level city are YES.

its so easy for ex-players like power to come out and call the club and the owners for buying big money players but deep down would anybody do anything different to get to the top don't forget the etihad campus is still only 2 years in the making and youth takes time and a lot of hard work on the back of success then you can only build for the future and that is being done so please don't slag us to the media

I don't think he's having a major dig at the club, he's probably as big a blue as anyone on here and he's just expressing an opinion. I'd love to see some local lads in the team as much as anyone but you're right, if they're not good enough then they shouldn't be shoehorned into the team just to appease the media. They need to be good enough.

good article completely agree with what hes saying. we need some mancs in the side. its what we are missing. a player everyone can identify with and the fans can get behind. there isn't really a link between the fans and the players at the minute. of course players like zaba will always have a special place, but i want to see a mancunian - our own gerrard on the pitch. spurs, united, everton seem to do bring them through and we've stopped almost.

it doesnt sound like hes having a dig at all. a local wanting local players in the team. i think the youth coaches want that to happen swell.

when i think back to the late 70s early 80s manchester city was one of the big money spenders at the time and malcolm allison was one of the biggest coaches in the game and he had to spend to build a city side and try to take on liverpool yes we had some great young players not many internationals or many that went on to play for england and malcolm allison sold some of the great young players at city at the time like peter barnes and garry owen so what is the difference back then

i think you can count on one hand how many great young players have come from the youth at manchester city and won the league and had a top international career yes we have over years turned out some good players and in the last 20 years had many players go on to make a good career out of football but a STAR PLAYER nope

we all would but the truth is manchester city are hoping to be going to levels in world football that you really can not teach and you are born a star not made

so theres no point in the academy then ? only world stars should make it into our team or our squad. the majority of our team isn't stars ...... we played kolarov at centre back instead of giving tosin a chance. they dont have to be stars to be good enough.
